View Full Version : RSA SAR3 Hammer + RA Trigger/Disconnector = Single Stage Only

I just replaced the standard Vepr K hammer with an RSA SAR3 hammer to improve the smoothness of the trigger. While I did obtain a very smooth trigger pull, I lost the two-stage capability. The reason for this is that the standard Vepr hammer as a ¼” raised surface where it contacts the sear; the RSA SAR3 hammer does not. (See pictures below; Vepr hammer on left, RSA hammer on right.) As the trigger is released, this raised surface keeps the hammer from moving too high when it engages the sear after the disconnector releases the hammer. When the sear engages this raised surface, the disconnector is positioned to contact the end of the hammer when the trigger is pulled. The second stage occurs when the disconnector contacts the hammer at this point.

With the RSA SAR3 hammer, the raised surface is not present, and when the hammer engages the sear, the end of the hammer is higher than the disconnector. The disconnector does not contact the hammer as the trigger is pulled, thus the second stage is eliminated.

If you are looking for a smooth, single stage trigger, the RSA SAR3 hammer is perfect for easily obtaining this. However, if you want a smooth two-stage trigger, you’ll probably need the full RSA FCG. (I’m currently installing one on my Vepr II.)
