Tokarev torture with oveloads, one strong gun:)

A Chinese 213 Tokarev in 9x19mm is a tough gun, but I reamed it out to 9x23 and worked up incrementally until something blew.


Alliant max load: 357 mag, 8 gr Power Pistol, 158 gr JSP, 5.6", 1306 fps, 33,800 psi.

I shot 9x23mm, 12 gr Power Pistol, 158 gr XTP JHP, 4", Starline 9mm super comp brass, wspm, blew hole in case and bent magazine.

Nice fantasy, but it would make boring footage.

In thousands of overloads I have never got hurt, and in all these years of overloads only a few guns were damaged. One of the reasons for buying the guns and doing the overloads was to identify which guns are weak. The Tokarev is not weak.

But running a search against "Teadie" could compile "Gadfly Posts" for entertainment:)

I have learned how to get this load up to 16gr.

The tricks are:
1) fill the case with powder and compress it, but not with the bullet. Put more powder in the case and compress it again, but not with the bullets. OK, now seat the bullet. This process prevents the bullet from being squished out to .362".
2) Resize the loaded ammo with a Lee Factory crimp or a sizing die with the decapping stem removed. Make sure the round will drop into the chamber.
3) Use Winchester brass. It has thicker walls than Starline 9mm Supercomp.

16 gr is double the max charge for 357 mag and that bullet. It makes the Tokarev kick so hard and bark so loud, factory 7.62x25 or 9x19 ammo seems like 22 rimfire.

I used to use 20 gr LONGSHOT and 158 gr, and that is 2.5 times the 357 mag max load, but the 16 gr of Power Pistol is much more powerful.
