I need some help here guys. A small local shop has one of the nicest 1891's I have ever seen. Bluing is 99%, stock is excellent with at least 1/2 dozen perfect cartouches, was made by Loewe, and the crest is intact. Any info would be much appreciated!

Paid $150 for one in excellent condition many years ago. I've seen them for as high as $400 online. See if you can get it for $200 or less.

Nice rifle.

Wow. Looks like I am going to have to scrounge up some dough for this. He wants $190 for it and that's looking like quite a deal. Not sure if it would matter to value, but it has a serial # under 2000.

Steveg, what is the handguard supposed to look like? I was looking for a good pic online, but I cannot find one. The one on this rifle has two horizontal grooves on opposite ends of the guard. Just want to make sure it is original.

Your description of the handguard sounds correct.

It is held on originally with a wire wrap that may or may not be hard to see.

Sounds like a good deal to me!

I just bought an excellent Argie 91 calvery carbine for $215. All matched. a shiney bore with strong rifling, and the stock had zero dings. It had a crest and 7.65 chambering.

The calvery does not have a bayonet lug.
