Hey guys I have AK's in 7.62X39 and 5.45X39 . I Also have plenty of MBR's in .308 . So Im going to go with the .223 VEPR. Now Im unsure of the 16" .The BIG plus is the shorter rifles easyer to manuver. What will I lose by getting the 4" shorter rifle. Isn't it like 70 FPS per inch????? That would be 280 FPS if im close. I plan on scopeing the rifle and target shoot with a Bipod attacked to the stock. The rifles heavy anough. So it will be a good Bipod canidate I think....I'll be frank about it. The 16" looks better and Has a more standard AK looking front sight base. The 20" has a weird looking front sight base. Anyone own a 20" and wish they had gotten a 16" instead? I also don't need the muzzel brake on it. Im going looking in about a month. Atlanta has there bigger gunshow on July 12th & 13th .If I only find a 20" I might have to go with it.But Im thinking I might not find one at all. Robinson arms seems to be out at this time. Thanks for any input. WarDawg
Buy both, really. That's what I ended up doing, getting a Vepr II .223 first, then a Vepr K .223. The K balances better, as the II is a little front heavy, but that won't matter much if you're going to use a bipod. There is no functional need for a muzzle brake on either of them. Try to find to Bulgarian Waffle 5.56x45 magazines, as my Veprs function flawlessly with them. As for looks, neither have a traditional AK appearance, but that's what I like about them. These rifles are built like tanks. The one thing that could hurt them is using bore cleaner on anything besides the bore. Stick with Breakfree CLP and you'll be happy.

Ian

While it seems to defy most conventional logic, Krebs Custom apparently believes/has found that the shorter barrels actually make for for increased accuracy with the VEPRs. Considering their reputation and all the tests and work they do, I'm more than inclined to believe them. Interesting trade off when you think about it...
I don't doubt Krebs, but if the K is more accurate than my Vepr II, that's getting real fancy for an AK.. ;)

True, especially since both of us seem to like the extra 4 inches on our standard Chinee AKs for sum bizarre reason... :D
I like it on the 91 for the extra length added to the sight radius.. ;)
With the Vepr II, it has eye relief.. :)
When I explode ice at 250m, it does seem to the eye that the Vepr hits harder than my 16" AR.
But both the Vepr and the AR do explode the milk cartons "real gooder..." ;)
