Alright, lets hear it! What kind of scope, red-dot, etc. do you have on your AR???

Bushnell holosight, one of the best cqb sights out there, I need to post some pics through it, works wonders with both eyes open.

EOTech 551 on my M4'gery. Best red-dot I've ever used. Even over Aimpoint. I do however prefer Trijicon ACOGs, but like my EOTech better than Trijicon's Reflex II...

rak, the reticle should look familiar. :)

No optics yet :( I am either going to get an ACOG or the Eotech. My problem is that every time I save enough money for one of them, I realize that it is also enough money to purchase some sort of firearm ;) . Nice looking weapons!!!

I use Aimpoints. One 3MOA and one 4MOA. I prefer the smaller dot. I sometimes mount my USNV D121M behind it.
RJ Shooter- Is that the smallest dot you can get with the EOTech? Your picture appears to show a circle with a dot in the middle. It looks a bit busy to me if you know what I mean. I'm not bad mouthing your equipment, I'm just curious because I've never looked through a EOTech before.

Chuck The center dot is 1MOA and is smaller than the front sight post!!! :D 1MOA is pretty darned precise. I put 30 rounds into less than 2" with the EOTech, firing as fast as I could get the dot back on target.

The outer reticle is 65MOA for quick target aquisition. Also, it's a laser hologram and not an LED reflection, or fiberoptic reflection like most other dot sights.

You can get a couple of "dot only" setups from EOTech, but just about everyone, including USSOCOM, prefers this 1MOA/65MOA setup because of it's speed. They also like it because it's currently the only one that has a low enough NV settings for Gen4 NVGs.

Hope that helps... :)

RJ Shooter- That does help, thank you. I guess it's that 65MOA circle that I have a problem with. It seems to be more than I would want between me and my target. I mainly shoot steel gongs that are 6"x6" with my dot sights. I guess if I was shooting real bad guys it might not be so bad to put that circle around them but for what I do I guess EOTech's just aint for me. Thanks for explaining them to me.

I'm kind of partial to aimpoints....mostly because of the absurdly long battery life. I've left mine on for more than a week in the safe accidentally, pulled it out and still have been able to run it for many range trips without changing batteries yet. I have an Eotech on the way.....should be here in a week or so.

Got a Gen. II USNV Cobra weapon sight(D241) about 6 months ago. Finally going to shoot the bushy with it mounted tonight. I've just used it for observation until now. Really excited to get that sucker Zero'd!!!!

Shown mounted on one of my old preban olympics.
Vest is my wife's btw.....had Roger Skic from Custom Tactical put it together for her.

Can that feature be disabled?

I'd hate to run into a bear or something at exactly the auto-switchoff point. TO be honest with you...that is my least favorite aspect of the Eotech.

Granted the chances of something happening at exactly 8 hours or 4 hours is pretty damn slim.....but I can leave my aimpoint on for weeks and not worry about it...the dot is always there.....with the extended battery module....you get something like 2000hrs on the brightest setting and ten years on NV setting.

I am excited about the eotech.....they're fun as hell to shoot with. Think it's going to end up on the beowulf.

Auto-shutoff is ok for digital cameras and shit but should not be on a weaponsight in my extremely unimportant(and relatively uneducated) opinion ;)

Sorry to hijack the thread, but VTdefender could you tell me what type of ff tube or rail sys you have in that first pic? Thanks, Ian

Hey RJ, a couple of questions on that eotech. Does your front sight get in the way of the circle/dot, and also is the 550 series available to civilians or is it military and LE only?

Leupold 6.5x20 x 40 EFR
Simmons 6.5x20x50
Leupold 6x
Doctor Optics 6x
Aimpoint (Night Vision model)
OKO...a few of these
soon to be getting a Leupold CQT......

Think this covers it....

I'd like to see the ammo stores for that engagement! :D Simply turning it off for a millisecond during downtime and then back on again would seem pretty logical to me. I'm not sure exactly how USSOCOM is doing it with their EOTechs.

You gotta remember that this optic is using Laser technology and not LEDs, Tritium, etc. It probably uses a bit more power, even in NV mode...

But I'm still on my original "N" batteries, so who knows? The AAs last even longer!!!

No the front post does not interfere! You gotta remember that for most applications, this is a binocular (both eyes open) optic. Your subordinate eye will have a full view of the target, while the dominate eye will be superimposing the reticle on the target.

You can close one eye and use the tiny 1MOA dot for a precise aiming point however! The dot is smaller than the front sight post!! But the optic is mainly mean't to be used with both eyes open, against multiple targets at >50'.

Yes, as far as I know, all EOTech optics are available for civilian purchase.

Eotech 511 with a ARMS #40 bius. I just got the Eotech this week. So far I really like it. I'll post a range report this weekend. Also, love your set-up RJ! Sweet!

OK....received my Eotech last week and I love it :D

Gotta get a BUIS though......Can't find my carry handle to chop (it had a date with a dremel and I think it's hiding)

http://freesites.pshift.net/~vtdefender/images/eo1.jpg

and of course I can't co-witness with the eotech mounted on top of a #38s swan sleeve :(
http://freesites.pshift.net/~vtdefender/images/eo5.jpg

I'll live with it for now until either I find my CH or I break down and order a #40.

I'd be lying if I said that chopping the #38s didn't come to mind in a moment really wanting some instant gratification. Fortunately my wife told me to step away from the dremel and have a beer.

I also considered chopping my carry handle. But I ended up getting a great deal on my #40. And its nice to have a complete handle laying around anyway. Good luck

I like my MAD BUIS. It co-witnesses perfectly and it is completely out of the way when down...

I don't like my optic as far forward as you gentlemen however. :p

What kind of lower do you have on that set-up? The reason I ask is that the white stamp in front of the mag well reminds me of my issue M-16A2s from back in the day. If memory serves, it's some sort of DOD inspection / acceptance mark.

I think the new Armalites also have a similar mark on them, but I'm not sure. Is than by any chance an old pre-86 transferrable Colt? Or are you a LEO / Dealer with a Restricted semi-auto Armalite?

Just curious. It looks cool as hell.

On my Bushy M4 I've mounted an Aimpoint CompM2 on an ARMS quick release mount with spacer. Also added an ARMS #40 BUIS to cowitness with the irons. Love that setup.:D

I mounted a Springfield 4x14x56 (illuminated with .223 bullet drop compensator) on my Bushy varmiter model. Scope works like a dream and the range finder is cool.
