This is something I'm a little fuzzy on with the AR system. During routine cleaning of the rifle the tube does not get removed, or so my U.S. army soldiers manual tells me(plus the little Bushmaster manual), so how does one clean out the tube and is it something necessary on a regular basis? Thanks.

tell the truth, the gas tube is pretty much self cleaning. Remember every time you fire, super hot gas is flashing through the tube under some pretty high pressure. We were told to use pipe cleaners in basic to clean the end of the gas tube but if you think about it that really makes little sence. Keep the out side of the tube with in the reciver clean but don't chance breaking off a pipe cleaner inside the end of the tube.;)

I have been wondering the same thing....I just shoot some gunscrubber in there, I figure that will do the trick.

Don't spray anything that isn't completely volatile (i.e. leaves no residue after evaporating quickly) in there as it would build up crud...
