Did anyone ever hear what Brand of ammo they were using? The media made sure everyone knew they were using an evil Bushmaster but I don't recall hearing about the ammo. What ever it was, it seemed to do the trick.
I remember people saying that the sniper must be highly trained, making 600 yard shots etc. I didn't know how he was getting away, but I knew he was close to his victims. Any one who knows 5.56 knows you can't expect the bullet to fragment at that range. They mentioned on TV many times how they had to pull all the fragments of the bullet out to see if they matched those of the other shootings.
Anyway, I'm rambling now. If anyone knows the brand of ammo please let me know.

I don't think he was making 600 yard shots. I think most of that was theory and conjecture based upon the terrain and the "grassy knoll" mentality. My guess is that everyone was ignoring the possibility of a mobile sniper's nest and even if they were thinking of that it was white vans and white men they were looking for.
I haven't really looked into this case since it quieted down but I would be willing to bet that most shots were pretty close. Perhaps as close as 50 yards at which range the fragmentation would be very reliable.

xdrkwonx-When I was 11B I had to do parades once in a while. One time me and a couple guys in my team were checking out this fake Nam vet. He was dressed in cammo of course, had a green beret and a bunch of Air Force NCO stripes sewn on his thrown together uniform. He also had capitans bars some place they should'nt have been but I can't remember where he had them.
Anyway, he see's us looking at him and must have thought we were pretty impressed or something so he comes over to talk to us. We heard about his buddy's all getting killed and every other BS story you can think of. We just stood their and took it untill he told us about those tumbling bullets that our M16's shoot. After correcting him, he explained they used special ammo in Nam. You can't win an argument with a liar so we just went back to nodding our heads and saying "Oh yah?".
Now, More important. What's xdrkwonx mean?
saleen-Either I didn't explain myself well enough or you missed something but we seem to agree anyway.

ha, yeah, tell me about it, i could outfit an Infantry Regiment with the amount of "rangers" i've met at bars. Telling people that their hands are registered...(like they're considered nfa or somthin') Being a Marine, i just play along and try not to get assaulted with those weapons of mass destruction he calls his fingers...
well xdrkwonx is actually dark-one. I tried to make it look cool one day but jus ended up makin myself sound like a korean doctor and it stuck. I'm indian, but my skins a bit browner than most, so all my friends call me black, charcoal, carbon etc...
