View Full Version : Bad S&B?

Shot several hundred rounds through my Bushy M4gery over the weekend. Mostly the Winchester made in Isreal. No problems or FTF's with that ammo.
I had a couple of boxes of S&B brass cased 55 grain rounds. I had 4 FTF's with this ammo. When I cleared the rounds and inspected them, two of them had the bulled pushed down insided the casing. Maybe they weren't crimped in tight enough around the neck. Anybody else ever have this happen?

Was this with the same magazine? It sounds as if your weapon simply isn't feeding the ammo properly and at some instant the bullet tip is impacting the feel ramps. This could be from an out of spec magazine or out of spec bullets (seat depth, etc.).

I've never shot S&B 5.56 so I have no personal experience with it but I would doubt that it is simply a crimping issue. If the weapon is feeding properly the crimp shouldn't matter that much or cause what you are describing unless it is so loose you can pull a bullet with your bare hands......easily.

The bullet setback might be the reason for some of the KBs with S&B 5.56 reported elsewhere. I can see a bullet with insufficient crimp getting pushed back during chambering, then BAM!

12 Volt, do you have the boxes, and can you share lot numbers from the box flaps?

Sorry Noah, unfortunately I do not have the boxes anymore. I loaded the ammo on stripper clips a while ago. I used only one mag that day (Orlite) and did not have any problems with the Winchester Isreali ammo I used.
