I recently purchased a new bushmaster AR-15 and got to shoot it the other day. My problem is that the two 10 round bushmaster mags thatcome with the gun have problems, i think? There all supposed to be 10 rounds but when I load them to capacity the mag wont lock into the mag well. I took 1 bullet out( 9 in mag ) and it locks in place but when I cycle the bolt the first round jams in the action. So the next mag I load 8 and theres no problems. The mags arre all new maufacture(2003), I know the gun is well oiled, is it common for new mags to do this? Or isthere some kind of break in required? Did anyone else have common problems when they first shot there AR's. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

My Bushy ran just fine off the bat, but it came with a pre-ban thermold mag. You might call Bushmaster and lodge a complaint on the "10rd" mags they sent with the gun, maybe they will exchange the mags for better ones. There needs to be just a small amount of play left between the mag follower and base for a full mag to seat properly in the weapon. The cartridges will be pushed down on by the bottom of the bolt carrier.

Welsome to the forums EATLEAD!

You gotta remember, the 10 round mag is there as a legality measure. That being said, I had the same problem loading the Bushmaster mags when I got my Bushies. As a result, I've never attempted to fire one...

I would guess they are there as a formality since they know all AR owners will end up buying USGI magazines for theirs.

Thats a real common problem with Bushmaster's neutered mags. Grab a couple USGI mags to try. Bet they'll work just fine.

Sucks when a new gun doesn't work though.....don't give up hope. :)
