I just spoke with a representive from The Wilderness (http://www.thewilderness.com) about tactical slings for the Vepr. He said that if side QD mounts were installed on the Vepr, the Giles sling for the Steyr AUG would work (http://www.thewilderness.com/Pages/slings_giles2.html#Anchor-THE-49575.) He also recommended Quake swivels, which are plastic, because they're quiet and won't mar the stock surface.

Has anyone tried attaching side mounted QD swivels to the Vepr furniture?

Ian

I emailed RobArms custom service about installing side-mounted QD studs that a tactical sling could be attached to. Here is their response:

The handguard should be plenty strong to mount a stud on the side for a sling. We've thought of offering such a device and just haven't done it yet.

I can see how a QD stud could be simply drilled into the side of the buttstock, but the handguard would seem to need a locking nut of some kind. Any thoughts on this?

Well, I just got my KTR-03 today, and while I have been going over it, I was contemplating the same thing. When Kreb's modified the VEPR's front fore-end (handguard) by shortening it a few inches, It looks like he installed a new front mounting block on the barrel (pressed?) to retain the front half of the handguard. The block has a horizontal 3/16" hole though it (between the barrel and gas tube). Corresponding holes are drilled though the handguard, and with what looks to be an expanding press nut is flush mounted in the right side of the handguard. The other side the bolt goes through, with the steel barrel block in between. It seems to me like an ideal place (position and strength wise) to put the front swivel! I wonder if Marc already had this in mind?

Congrats on the KTR! I saw some nut on the handguard in pictures of the KTR and was wondering what it was for.

I spoke with Marc today about getting a custom built AK and forgot to ask about installing the side-mounted QD studs. I'll send them another email.

At the risk of changing the subject of this thread, Marc and Brian told me about a Saiga KTR that's in the works. I told them to put me at the top of the list for it. :D

I thought about this too, it might be kinda pricey, but I bet you could use GG&G sling things (made for AR15's). You might have to chisel out a little material from the handguard to get the plate to fit on the inside (and not interfere with the gas tube), the rear wouldn't be a problem at all, just drill the two holes. Once you put them on there is no way they would come loose with the two allen head bolts. Oh well, whats $60 bucks anyway
