View Full Version : Do crows count as Varmints?

I lump them all into the same category. I saw a HUGE crow milling about outside. While I kind of like crows in a way, I guess my old man's penchant for shooting them on sight has rubbed off on me. He's hell on anything black that has wings and feathers. I guess that's why I took the AR and took a shot at this big bugger sitting on the ground about 50 yards away. The shot wasn't that difficult, but I did have to shoot just over the hood of my car by about 6 inches to get him. It's kind of scary to shoot so close to the hood of your car from a standing shot. The shot seemed to go off without a hitch, but when I walked up to the site of the bird's last known whereabouts I saw nothing. Then I saw a small black figure running away through the woods and I knew the bird was unable to fly, but still kicking and running like all hell. I had to go on a merry chase through the underbrush to finish him off. The coup de gras was very humane once I got close enough. I would have preferred a clean first whack, but I can sleep at night knowing that I did my all to make the short and painful remainder of this bird's life as short as possible.

I popped one with my L1A1 in my grandfather's field not too long ago. 7.62N turns them into a cloud of feathers. ;)

I'm pretty sure this was a crow. He was big, but he was a crow.

Not technically varmints in Ohio. Season runs from 6/11 thru 3/20 the next year. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday only. Always a bonus when no groundhogs to be found.:D

Are crows varmints? Hell yes! Anything can be a varmint in my opinion, given certain circumstances:D People, loud cars(no exhaust, squealing tire in front of my house at midnight or rap music shaking my walls and windows as they drive by,etc. No, really, if it flies it dies:D

Ive always shot just about anything with the exception of hawks and eagles.. cuz thats just plain ass wrong as an american.. and slightly illegal.. but any other bird or land creature is fair game for me... hell, i couldnt identify any of the birds i shoot at anyway.. lol.. its living.. therefore it must die. :D
