That's a good question? I'd like to know as well. I checked with FAC about complete RPK's from Arsenal and they show nothing on a 5,45 ,5.56, and the 7.62x39 has, according to their sales dept. , been discontinued. Does anyone have any info on these or maybe a kit? Of course with a kit you need a receiver. Will the standard AK stamped receiver work with the RPK barrel assembley? Can anyone help on this?
Thanks
Paul

I noticed that k-var had RPK kits back in. The milled Bulgy kind.

I am also looking for a RPK kit. I would prefer stamped as that's what I've built previously.
I see where k- says coming soon.
I'm not too eager to go with the shot out I/O barrels.
Are there any out there?

Hey fire guy let me know. I'm dying to get my hands on one. P.S. checkout the romanian forum about a S.E. Michigan shoot.

Re: Xcaliberinc RPK kits
I emailied them about condition of their RPK kits and a "Steve Randolph" replied saying "these kits have good condition rifling and no rust pitting (chrome lined)".
Did not say where they got them only that he thought they were Romanian due to trunion markings.
I'm skeptical...nobody has good RPK kits anymore. Also, the website list no contact info (besides email) only stating they are located somewhere in central Missouri??
I'll try and get some more info. about these kits and post what I find out.

I just ordered a kit from xcaliberinc.com. I have had some very good emails with Steve Randolph. Let's hope the kit comes and is in decent condition.

Are there any updates on the Xcaliberinc RPK kits?

Hi Guys,
Looks like I may have gotten the last RPK kit that Xcaliber had. It just came in on Tuesday and is in Good or better shape. Bore is decent (no pits, flakes in the chrome, etc.). Only thing missing is the clip/latch on the bipod to keep the legs together when folded, but I have a new replacement bipod on it's way for a changeout during the build.
A quick plug for Xcaliber: Steve and Mike were both really helpful ~ great guys to work with.
But, they're out of RPK kits.

BTW - I got lucky with mine. It had a broken "ear" on the front sight block and Xcaliber wasn't gonna sell it. BUT, they offered it (at a considerable discount I might add) and I jumped on it. I already have a replacement front sight block and will do the swap during the build.

Hi Jim,
It is funny, but all of a sudden Steve Randolf emailed me and said he had one more kit left! Of course I had to get it. I guess I got the "left over" parts kit. It arrived at my place a few days ago, but I am out of town and haven't had a chance to see it. My first xcaliber kit is pretty good, but I would say that the bore is worn. Still bright and shiny, but somewhat shot out. Check and see how far a 7.62 x 39 bullet goes into the muzzle. On the first kit that I got a bullet goes down to the neck of the casing ... almost.

Sounds kinda screwy... I'll give Steve a call to see what the scoop is. He told me that mine was the last kit, but you really have to talk to Mike for the details (he's the FFL). Who knows, maybe they've pieced together another kit or two!
Let me know how your 2nd kit looks. Mine is in pretty good shape mechanically. A round inserted in the muzzle goes in just over 1/2 way to the neck of the case, so I'm pretty pleased with it. Everything else looks fine, though I gonna replace the furniture with an East German RPK laminated wood furniture set that I came across.
BTW - I found a guy that has a couple of Russian bipods if you need one. These are just like the ones on the Romanian kits (non-adjustable leg length, non-removable from barrel), but are NEW. The retainer clip was missing from mine, so I'll change out the bipod when I replace the front sight.
LMK on your kit and thanks again,
Jim

George,
I contacted XCaliber and Steve said that Mike had a "personal" kit that he was holding back for himself. Looks like that's the one that you got. Who knows, it may turn out to be sweet!
Steve also mentioned that all of the RPK kits that they had were "hand picks". My barrel is pretty good, but my furniture was beat up pretty bad. I got a replacement Russian set (mint) for it along with a new Russian Bipod (mine was missing the latch and springs).
Anyhow, XCaliber is out of kits now. Let me know how both your kits look when you get back.
Thanks again,
Jim

Jim,
I finally got to see my 2nd kit. Metal finish on Front end is 90%+. Wood is very good. Bore is bright, but still worn (at least at the muzzle end). Overall much better than the first kit in looks alone. I was satisfied with the 1st, delighted with the second. I have to fit the gas tube to the second, because the latch wont close on it. WinnR said this is normal on some of these RPK kits.
george
Note: I got two mags with the second kit, I forget what I got with the first. No cleaning rods with either.

Hi George,
Sounds like you got a good one there with the 2nd kit. My wood was beat-up pretty badly and the bipod was missing the latch and springs. I replaced the furniture and bipod, replaced 'em with new. On the plus side, the bore is decent.
What are you planning to do on your receivers? Are you gonna make cut outs for the trunnion buldges and weld in a section of "U" channel to get the form and upper rail material or are you gonna try the press thing? I never got a response from the guy that had the forms to press the buldges in a stamped receiver, did you hear back from him?
LMK and thanks for the update on your kits,
Jim

Jim,
I am still trying to decide what to do with the receiver. the dies are the most appealing to me. I am building a Polish AK with a fixed stock now. Iam trying to get another build under my belt before I tackle an RPK.

I just got a RPK to run using a modified weld kit.
It was a bit of a chore, primarily because everything that could go wrong, went wrong.
It fires and operates well. I'm waiting until I have finished it to put the sights on, then I'll see how it groups.
Assembly involves cutting and milling for the upper rails, cutting out than rewelding a piece for the trunnion swell, installing the lower rails, assembling the weld kit, reworking the selector lever, fitting the mag catch, countersinking the axis pins, and then we're ready to install the trunnions.
I would've gleefully paid $300 for a milled receiver to avoid all that.:(
