When a bayonet's length is listed, is that over all length, or just the blade excluding hilt?

It could be variable, but with Enfield bayonets, the given length is usually in reference to the blade. For example, the Pattern 1907 is usually listed as 17". That's 17" from tip to crosspiece. Overall length is 22".
