Well do you use civilian .223 brands, 5.56 military or anything you can find?

Either: Sellier & Bellot, South African Surplus, Winchester white box made in Israel, or USGI. All depends on case I open on the day I go shooting.

I've heard that wolf brand because of the lacquer shouldn't be used due to gumming it up. I would like to try Remmington UMC brand until I can get some milsurp.

There is no problem with using Wolf ammo in a Bushmaster. I sent an email to Bushmaster support services and asked about using Wolf ammo in their guns.

Following is their reply:

Subject: Steel cased ammunition

We have also had conflicting reports on using Wolf or any steel cased ammunition in our rifles. The steel cased ammunition has a preservative lacquer coating on them. This usually will not affect our rifles with the chrome chamber and bores. But, I have had people ask why it will not work in one rifle while it works alright in his friends rifle. Some chambers are slightly tighter than others and it makes extraction difficult with the lacquer coating while the same rifle will cycle flawlessly with brass cased ammunition.

We do not recommend breaking in a new rifle for the first 300 to 400 rounds with it as it is somewhat under powered. If you are going to use it then we recommend trying a few hundred rounds before buying in bulk. We have never received a rifle for repair because of premature wear from using the steel cased ammunition. We recommend cleaning the chamber with a chamber brush and solvent after use to prevent any problems.

Thank you.

I have fired thousands of rounds thru my Bushmaster without any problems. You might check with the manufacturer of your rifle to get their opinion on firing Wolf ammo in yours.

The S\A surplus works best for me. It's been hard to come by lately.

Mine have been on a pretty steady diet of guatemalan 55gr surplus or SA "battlepack" 55gr surplus.

Once in a while I give 'em some IMI M855 for a change, or a case of Win Q3131A, but all 4 loads mentioned have been superb in all my rifles.

There's more SA coming in to sportsman's guide in september.

I bought 400 rounds of Winchester Q3131A at the gunshow last weekend.
it was $80.00 <>works out to .20¢ per round out the door.
was this a good price or can I find it for less?
If you suggest internet order please add shipping into the cost per round.

Thanks

DeltaWolf, If you order from Eric the ammoman(ammoman.com) shipping is free. Great guy to work with,I always get my order in three days. 1000 rounds for $199,the same price as what you paid at the gunshow. I almost always shoot Winchester Q3131A or lake city. I'm thinking about trying Wolf

I like using PMP south african ammo. I shoot it through my colt mt6400c and it's clean and accurate. I also use the same ammo in my mini 14 gov't bbl folder and norinco 84-s it cycles flawlessly and is suprisingly clean!

That Wolf performance ammo is fun to shoot indoors, different muzzle flash every time. I found S&B & PMC to the least muzzle flash.

I shoot mostly wolf though.
