I just bought my first AR, an Olympic Arms PCR-3 with a 16 inch barrel. The company website says this barrel has a 1 in 10 twist. My question is, what is a good accurate round for this barrel?

The website also said that I can expect 1 MOA from this rifle. Is this a pipe dream or can it really be done?

With a 1:10 twist, you don't want a real light bullet, stick to 55gr or more. 62 works good in my 1:9, and if you're shooting long range, you might try the 68 or 69 grains.

That said, if you're really wanting accuracy, you'll either want handloads or a very good premium round. I've shot Federal with Sierra Match Kings (69gr) to very good effect. Hornady's 62 gr. is also very good. Experiment - yours might do well with cheap ole Win. white box, or it might prefer something more exotic.

With open sights, 1moa is possible but you will have to really be on your game. 99% of us can't do that unless we're using match sights & a tuned trigger. With my Bushy 16" A3, I can do a 2" group once and a while, which for my talent, is awesome.

Thanks. I don't have to worry about open sights yet. As soon as I got it home, I mounted a Leupold Vari-X III 4.5-14 w/ 4 inch sunshade. Damn thing is nearly as long as the rifle. I figure I'll leave it there until I get bored with it, while at the same time getting the carry handle & front sight setup I want for later. A little bit at a time as this purchase just about depleted my gun fund.

If you're going with optics, I'd seriously consider a drop-in adjustable trigger or one with a very light pull like a Jewell or a N/M trigger of some sort.

Combat triggers are pretty limiting if you're trying to squeeze out the most from your gun, plus those light triggers just feel a whole lot better! :D

may I suggest Black hills ammunition, or even the Hornaday match ammo is a good choice.

I agree with installing a better trigger. the mil-spec triggers tend to be 6 to 8lb range......a new trigger is well worth the few dollars......

Doh! Can't believe I forgot Black Hills! Yes, definately try some Black Hills. Even their remanufactured stuff is better than most other company's new stuff.

If your not a re-loader. I would pick up a box of federal. Add that to your list. There known for there accuracy. That's pretty much the standard advertising on most brands 1moa at a hundred yards, BUSHMASTER,ROCK RIVER, OLYMPIC ARMS,ect.

Yeah, I tried a box of Federal 55 gr., and it was pretty good. That and South African surplus was all I had for the first trip to the range.

Mark, how did you like that south african surplus? I was thinking of picking up a couple three hundred round battle packs. I bought a thousand rounds of that russian .223. It shot alright. It's good for plinking. I bought it at $95.00 a case. Not bad for a thousand rounds. You can't go wrong for that price.

I'm a dork when it comes to shooting...

I have a DPMS Sweet 16, 1" bull barrel that I shoot with an aimpoint 4moa red dot sight! At 100 yards, I can get 1/4-1/2"moa... and like I said, I' a dork with minimal shooting expertise?

I also have a new Bushy AK shorty... that too shoots sub 1moa?

I dunno what I'm doing right or wrong, but AR's shoot killer in my hands?

And all this is using Q3131A?
