I havent heard anything bad about those guns. Stick around and some of the better informed folks can give more info.
You may have a long wait before you ever see an SSR-99. Arsenal-USA, the company importing the parts and manufacturing them has had some sort of "falling out" with their parts supplier, Arsenal-Bulgaria. The scuttlebutt now is that they CANNOT finish any more rifles for lack of parts. If your finances are such that you can spend the $800 to get this rifle though, don't even think about a Maadi! The Bulgarian guns are sooooo much nicer. If you can't wait, get an SLR-95 and put a USA parts kit on it. Better yet, get one of Arsenal-USA's SSR-99P (Polish) rifles! They are even better quality than the Bulgarian and come with a bevy of cool grenade launching accessories. If however you want to stay in the $300 range, go with a Romanian SAR-1 in 7.62x39 or SAR-2 in 5.45x39. They by the large are better rifles than the Maadi.

Cool. Do you like working on weapons and developing an intimate relationship with your weapon? Then that's a good way to do it.

Oh. This would be your first AK? Definately go with the SSR. Mail us back with a range report, don't forget to hold your breath... everybody knows it makes UPS move faster. http://www.ak-47.net/akcgi/biggrin.gif
