Received my Maadi from J&G Sales ($298.50) on Friday 1/14 and shot 100 rounds on Saturday 1/15. Man oh man, what a filthy gun. You name it, and it was stuck to either the inside or the outside of the gun... dust, sand, camel hair, cardboard dust, sawdust, wood splinters,.... Didn't bother to strip it or even run a patch, just decided to start shooting right out of the box. Loaded up the 30 round East German mags and started pulling the trigger. The magazine release holds the mags too tight, so I had to wack it with a hammer to make it let go. The front site is WAY over to the left, the lower wooden handguard is loose, the wood is mismatched, and the pistol grip is way too cheesy. Even with a 4x28 scope, I shot 8 inch groups at 50 yards.

Man I live this gun. I know that this gun could shine up real nice, but why bother? I figure its like driving an old beat up Chevy pickup...you never have to worry about door dings at the mall.

If you want a dirty, mismatched, reliable AK-47, then this gun is for you. My kids have never heard of a MP5 or a M-96, but they sure could identify a AK-47 on sight. The gun was a big hit for the family, with the exception of the wife.

sounds like you got a shitty one. Did you check the bore before you fired?

My AK is not really all that shitty, I just wanted any potential Maadi buyers out there to realize what they were getting. Don't be suprised at the looks you get when you tell people at the range that this thing is brand spanking new. The FAL grip from ACE will dress it up nice, and the scope adds to the intimidation factor. This is a good gun for the price, and you can see from other members on this site how nicely they can be refinished.

If I had to buy the Maadi again, I would. The only change I would make would be to buy a more expensive scope. I paid $29 for a scope, rings, and new receiver cover.

To answer your questions AKDUKE, I had a hard time looking in the barrel. The business end was pointing at my eye and my shoe was holding open the bolt. Since I saw light, I was happy.

Is this an example of why they looked at me funny at the gun store when I field stripped/ function tested mine before I would accept delivery? I would never have thought that someone might actually take a weapon out to the range without having stripped it to the bone 3 or 4 times first. Yes, they do look nasty straight out of the box, what with all that cosmoline stuff all over them.
