I just warmed up the Maadi I bought. I went to the local dealer who was expecting a shipment just before the Kali ban, and I put down a deposit,so I didn't get to hand pick the one I got. I guess it came from century. I was kind of worried when I looked at it but too late. It was mine for better or worse. It was $300 less than a much better lookin "Romarian"! I took heart when the AK smiths all told me that a Maadi was a for real Russian AK made on Russian tooling from the Nasser days.
First, it was really dirty, and had the crummy fire control parts made in the USA. I cleaned it up real good, but the bore wasn't real crisp looking. Something about Egyptian chrome plating.
But you know what, this thing works great!
Use cheap ammo, it loves it. I think it would work even better with corrosives. The sights took no attention. I won't jam like my high dollar match AR did. And pretty darn accurate too - as good as my eyes. I had a couple of pre-ban Valmets, and considering the price difference, this thing ain't bad!
