Randy,
Excellent looking build. By the way, what do you use for the final metal finish on your builds? What's your opinion for GunKote for an AK?

Super nice!
how much are these and whats the problem with safety
Kalashnikov Krazy

The problem with the saftey is OOW was kind enough to pre drill the hole for the selector.....in the wrong spot!!! Its a bit too low so with the saftey up there is a ugly gap between the top cover and selector. Most smiths dont want to weld it up and re-drill it in the right spot.

I would much rather have "HESSE ARMS" stamped on my receiver.

has anyone heard from randy since he posted this? he sent me an email on the 30th with pics of my rifle and that is was done and was going to ship out that week. nothing has got here, and now he does not reply to emails. SCUBADVR also seems to be having the same problem. randy normally answers emails very quickly.....anybody know?? let me know.
thanks jay

I haven't talked to Randy recently but I did talk to him about my project in late August and he said that he was going on vacation around mid Sept. He told me he would start on my project when he returned. Hope this helps you.

I got the AK bug a while back and just had to add an AK (or TWO) to my 3 AR'S. I saw this kit and had to have it. I have never shot an AK , never looked inside one, and only briefly handled one.
SO, not knowing jack-sh*t about them, I am going to need some sort of reference point to start with.
I called Randy several times today, his recording states he is gone from the 3rd to the 15th, no answer.....
I emailed him, only automated reply "back the 15th"
I thought he may have interest in riveting and pressing/headspacing for me...
I just can't screw it, got to have rivets.

Hello Recon,
I am not worried about Randy, just extremely anxious. He is building a 74 Krink for me and I just can't wait to get this fire breathing monster in my hands.

I tols Randy that I wanted them back as soon as possible and he said the time would be shorter if they weren't finished (epoxY) so I plan on doing them myself with some stuff from Lauer
LAUER (http://www.lauerweaponry.com/ezac/index.asp?page=00123)
But I will post some pics

I thought about building my underfolder with a fixed wooden buttstock and tossing the folding stock.
Yours makes me change my mind.

Kevin, it shoots great! It really is a beautiful weapon. I have some SARs and they can't hold a candle to it. Randy does a nice job. He still has my AMD. If it is half as nice as my PMKMS I will really be pleased. Let me know when you get yours. Again, you will not be disappointed.

I'm glad to hear that not only does it look GREAT, it shoots good too.
My plan has changed a little, Randy is going to complete both my PMKMS. I will have one folder and one with a laminated Polish buttstock (as soon as it gets here from Poland)
That should be cool, at some point down the road.......still waiting

Actually, I worried about the position of the serial number. The old Hesse receivers had it just where the underfolder attaches (I believe) which is a no-no.
If my Vulcan comes with the number in the right spot, I may try the underfolder.

I have heard this as well, but I think I have seen some pics of rifles built this way. I hope to use the upcoming Global reciever for my build.

Fantastic job by Randy!
The other full stock one is next!
What receiver was used? I have one of these kits and would like for Randy to do the work too. So far, I've been holding out for one of Global Trades new receivers. Yours looks really good. Don't know if I can wait much longer. Congrats. on your new toy. Nice work by Randy.

It's an OOW, and it does have the small gap in "safe", but I would do it again in a minute.
It turned out as good or better than I expected.
Now, I have to wait for my other......my life now seems like "I hurry up and wait".

This work is fine. I am really impressed.
I can't see a hint of the permanent pin on the underfolder.
The OOW receiver really shows its value in letting you have the underfolder version built.
I have several Vulcan's I plan to use but the # is in the wrong place. Too bad, I paid about $40 delivered for each one from JoeKen (shared 10 with some buddies).
For that price I could buy two Vulcan's for one OOW.

Randy,
I have seen your work and it is great. However, the pitted donor rifle that I had may may not give the best results. I eagerly await the finished product. Feel free to post any photos to show everyone what you were working against.

Merkava,
Happy to show the progress of this build on the internet.
I have been hit with some computer issues, as I have been keeping an old computer alive by changing motherboards processers and such, and my computer died again with another aftermarket board and processer, after just 1 month!!!!
When I put my old harddrive with your receiver pics on the computer I use now, I will post the pics. Maybe I can also get my digital camera to donload pics on the hardrive also.

Yes, Independance Arms dissapeared like a fart in a strong wind. Took a lot of money and parts from many members of this board including me. I ended up sending what remained of my project to AKUSA for Chris to finish. I will get the rifle on Thursday (according to UPS). From the pictures Chris has sent me it will be most excellent.

I don't think it needs to be deleted. It may serve as a warning for others to stick with a reputable builder.

Chris does some of the best AK work IMHO. He's done quite a few for me so far. All the ones he's done for me look as good as they shoot.
