Looking for a source for any USA made wood stocks(light color prefered). Also is it normal for the gas piston to be alittle loose or is my messed up?
And one more thing, y'all talking about re-painting the gun metal, can I use any paint like header/engine (high-temp) or is it special type of paint?
Thanks,
Roger

Your piston is normal. It is pinned in place and they are all loose like that.
I used Brownell's bake on laquer finish. It looks great. Almost like the Parkerizing on my Mossberg shotgun.
I don't know whether engine paint would work or not. I seem to remember one guy on this site somewhere saying that's what he did but I don't know where I saw it.
As far as American Wood, I don't know. I refinished my Egyptian wood and it looks good enough to not replace it.
Maybe someone else knows.

High temperature engine paint works great on Maadi AKs if you first remove most of the paint using paint remover and then degrease the gun. The paint dries very quickly and goes on perfectly. I have used it for years on guns.

RogerLee, try Soupbowl- the link is on the opening page of this website. from what I understand, the wood is USA made. it looks great (the steamed elm) in the pictures. I also hear that the buttstocks are not shaped like a typical AK-47 wood stock.
oh yeah, i've heard others talk about Ironwood. never seen their wood (LOL), but i understand that it is also made in the US.
then there is RPB (look in SGN) and Tapco, but you may have to buy the trigger group, floor plates and followers with it, i'm not sure. HTH and good luck.......
