Monday I will go for finger prints and the CLEO signature. Hopefully WED. the forms will be in the mail to BATF. The C-III is cutting the check for $200 (says they know he's good for it) How long has it been taking for this step of the process? I'm getting itchy trigger finger.

Don't want to disappoint you, but it always took around three months for me.
In the meant time, acquire all your necessities; like ammo, extra magazines, sling, and get your targets ready. After all you can't wait to shoot it, right?
Be sure to know all the regulations/laws concerning owning a full auto weapon.
Example: can't take it out of state without prior approval.
Can't loan it to anyone unless you go with the gun.
Where the gun goes , so go you. There are many more you should know in order to stay out of trouble.
Have fun.

Another REAL good idea is to keep a photo copy of the BATF papers with you any time you go out shooting. That way if you ever get questioned about how come you have an automatic weapon and is it legal, you have the proof right there.
Keep the original paperwork in a safe place like a bank safety deposit box. Good luck and enjoy.

Shadow walker,
Got 2 beta-C's on the way and the ammo is piling up fast. Next is a real nice alum. case. This baby is new and never fired (FNC Paratrooper) in the box, so i'm going to try and pamper it. ......sort of.
CAV Trooper,
10-4 on the copy in possesion. A work friend has a couple of F/A's and in 24 years of shooting on his buddies private property, the sheriff's dept. has visited them on every occasion. Anywhere from 1 to 3 cruisers, the only thing that sent them away in due fashion was the copies of his paperwork. http://www.ak-47.net/akcgi/cool.gif

Dead,
While talking to the Detective at the S.O. for my sign-off, I asked about the visits to my buddie's shooting events. He stated that if gunfire (especially autofire) is reported and the S.O. doesn't know WTF is giong on, they must investigate. He also stated a simple call in advance telling of his shooting plans would have been good enough to not have an in person visit.

As soon as you get your paperwork back, go to Kinkos (or some other copy house) and get a double sided color scan of your paperwork. Believe it or not, they can reduce it with enough resolution to still read all the print after shrinking it to the size of a drivers license. I have two reduced and laminated copies per CIII weapon--one stays with the gun, one stays in my wallet. Don't EVER carry your original around, from what I've been told its a major pain in the ass to replace lost paperwork.

Update: Form 4 was sent off on Aug. 22nd. It took 18 days to get the Sheriff to sign-off. Vacations and important investigations were the excuses (also, first timers go through a more extensive background check/interview.) Now everyone tells me the current time frame to expect it back is 4 months. Bummer. I guess this will be my X-Mas present to myself.

I have a couple of NFA weapons and it always takes 3 to 4 months or more but I purchased an AOW at Knob Creek Range Machinegun shoot 2 years ago come oct. and I still don't have my paperwork, they keep saying that they have problems keeping up with the $5.00 stamps and for me to start papers over again. I think that i'm going to have to reapply as a SBR and add a stock to my Krink or sell it. They lost or misplaced my papers three times, or so they say.
