Just returned from the range. My daughter continues to practice with her Oly Plinker for high power competition that she wants to enter next year. Today she ran another 500 rounds through it, most on target. There was one mag that she just had to empty as fast as she could pull the trigger! :D She had absolutely no problems at all, none to date with over about 2000 rounds through it. Her high power target looked really good, with one round in the X ring, 5 in the 10, 10 round in the 9 ring, and all but 2 of the remaining in the 8! The other 2 were just outside the 8 ring. I'm pretty proud of my long range shooting daughter! Now if she would only let me shoot the thing!!!

Hey Olympic, thanks for making an affordable, highly accurate AR-15 !!!

This is the one that broke I believe...

RJ is right, the Plinker broke in half when my daughter leaned into a next shot. The front of the upper receiver broke right behind the barrel nut. The nice thing about the design of the AR-15 is that this kind of failure is not explosive, it can't happen while the bolt is locked up. The bad thing is that it did happen.

Even though Olympic replaced the upper, it used the original barrel and other parts, and until I have faith in the upper, it sits in my guns safe hanging from a shelf. I installed a Model 1 made upper on the Plinker lower, and will ring it out later this summer. In the mean time, I had a Rock River CMP rifle custom made for my daughter. She hopes to try her hand in a competition later this month.

Ahhh, I never knew it broke!

Guess I need to get over here more often...

Good info to have though. I've had an RRA lower but sold it before building it up. I want another RRA but a local shop has Oly lowers and I'm trying to work a deal for some other stuff he has. Thought I'd try and get one tossed in, but I'll pass and pick up a RRA lower at the next show.
