I plan on buying a MISR-90 AK but have heared that the guide rails on the receiver tend to crack and break off at the bend in the metal where their formed. Has anybody had this problem? It sounds like Bullsh#t to me. But I need to hear from some MADI-90 owners, because they sound like a COOL project gun. Thanks in advance for your answers.

What type of receiver do the new maadis have? Are they american made? If they are they probably suck.

The Misr-90 should have an original Egptian receiver, and thwerefore theres nothing toi worry about, they are fine, and will last a good long time. And as for soft metal, it deforms not breaks, overly hardened and inferior metal will crack or snap. Maadi receivers as a whole have a very good reputation for durability. Now as for the Misr-90, as a whole they are not so well liked, being a conglomerate of Egyptian/Chinese parts assembled in the US under less than perfect conditions. There have been so much reports of tight headspacing, and extraction/ejection problems. I don't own one so I can't personally verify anything, just read some posts here and elsewhere on this problems.

I have put several cases of ammo thru my Maadi MISR (USA Hi-Cap), and have had no problems or any sign of weakness. You're right about their potential for a project gun. With a little TLC, you can have a very pretty AK for less than $400 after all costs. I'm sure you've seen my thread about it. This is my first work on any type of firearm, other than just simple cleaning. It's easy, and I am having alot of fun with it.
Good Luck

I saw a MAADI (postban, not MISR) receiver fail. (See "Death of an AK, about mid-December.) The owner said it had about 11000 rnds through it. The upper rails were cracking (stress cracks) and enough had broken off that, during recoil, the bolt carrier came up and out of the receiver, just as you lift it out during field-stripping. I believe this was simply a bad receiver, or one of a bad batch. If metal stampings are not heat treated, stamping stress can cause this. And remember, it took 11000 rnds to do this, and when it happened the owner was "bump" firing most of the time. Only for an AK would this seem "premature failure".
