Does anyone know if there is a difference between a Maddi Misr 90 and a Misr S/A ??

The Misr-90 was a hybrid rifle. Egyptian receiver and Chinese barrel assembly, perhaps other Chinese parts as well. It appears that there are no new Misr-90 rifles available, and its possible that we won’t see any in the future. One theory was that a quantity of Chinese MAK-90 rifles were caught up in one of the past bans and importers found the Egyptian/Chinese combination as one way to salvage the shipment(s). The name seems to reflect this combination of Misr and MAK-90 parts.
The new Misr S/A appears to be Egyptian with the exception of the fire control group, pistol grip, and magazine follower and floorplate. I have two Misr S/A models and the fire control parts are marked FSE and US. The mag floorplate is marked FSE US as well. The Misr-10 may have fewer, if any, US parts since it can only accept 10-round mags.
The catch with the Misr S/A is that although it accepts any hi-cap mag, the original mag’s follower and floorplate were used to get the import parts count down. This being the case, any mag installed should have a US made follower and floorplate installed.
Although they are on the rough side of the appearance scale (well, actually ugly fits the bill) they do clean up to be fairly respectable, if you don’t mind putting in the time and effort. As for function, mine have delivered on the AK design promise – flawless operation. Some may have a canted front sight base, which I believe was done during the barrel thread removal operation, after final assembly of the rifle. Both of mine had this problem to some extent and it was easily remedied at $0 cost.
In my search I wasn’t able to find another pistol grip, hi-cap capable AK variant that beat the Maadi’s $350 street price – especially here in Southern California. These are not collector items, just a reasonably priced shooter.
Hope this helps.
