On the rear sight block opposite of the side of the take down lever is a symbol with a two diget number inside it denoting the year of mfg/import on post ban ARM,RPM,and RML model rifles. If it is marked MISR post ban. All ARM and RPM post ban rifles have tack welds on each side of the front sight where the muzzle brake screws up to it. The MISR have the threads turned off as does the RML model and will not have tack welds.

All prebans (except for a couple dozen that you probably will never see) were imported by Steyr-Daimler-Puch of America. It will be stamped on the side of the receiver.

These are early postbans. They came with thumbholes, caps welded over the threaded barrels, and ground bayonet lugs. ACC International and Intrac were partners in the importation of these. They had originally set the deal up befroe the ban, but the rifles were stopped before the ban took effect. I have one in my collection. Some of the earliest one's even had a third pin hole, for full auto safety sear, but were recalled by the importer after the governemt found out and impossed the recall. '93 was stamped on a lot of these as they were made in that year, although many were not imported in '93. I'm sorry, I can't remember what the acronym ACC stands for, I'm have to look it up in my old magazine articles.

I have a question a long the same lines as waterdoctor, with the same information he supplied. I to have a Maadi ARM purchased shorlty after the 1994 ban. If I understand the law correctly, if the reciever was manufatured in 1993 and made into a fully assembled gun before 9-13-94, then it is condsidered pre-ban. If a reciever is manufactured before the ban, but not made into a complete gun or registered as one after the ban, then it is considered post ban? Taking that into consideration, with my Maadi came the "Final Inspection Certificate for firearms and its components" that included make, model, serial number, dated May 1994. It was stamped/signed by a rep. of the Maadi Company. Is there a possiblitly that this could be considered a pre-ban due to dated inspection certificate or wishful thinking? I am unaware of the actual import/export date. Thanks.

SpecialK,
I'm afraid not. As Tantal mentioned, the only prebans out there will have "Steyr-Syracuse NJ" stamped on the right of the receiver, foreward of the magwell. The 1994 ban was largely concerned with the DOMESTIC production of assault weapons, such as the AR-15. The pertainent ban for IMPORTED rifles such as your Maadi is the 1989 Bush ban. Therefore, your rifle would have had to been manufactured and imported prior to 1989 to be preban.

Thanks Davy. You are correct. I was finally able to get in touch with Intrac Arms, the importer, and they verified that although the receiver was produced in 1993, the rifle was imported for a post ban rifle configuaration. Intrac stated that all Maadi ARM's imported by them, are post bans. Wishful thinking got the best of me. I am still very pleased with my Maadi ARM as it stands, and it is a fine shooter.
