Okay....how the heck do you get the buttstock and foregrips off? I have never tinkered with a rifle stock before, so i could use some basic info. I need them completely off so I can refinish the wood. thanx from a beginner

Remove the gas tube and look down on the lower handguard. There is a small lever on the right side of the handguard retainer. Twist it all the way foreward and tap the retainer toward the end of the barrel and pull the handguard foreward. It might need to be tapped to get it to move. On the thumbhole stock there are two screws on the top and one inside the receiver behind the trigger. This is where the rubber mallet comes into play tap it on the pistol grip area till it comes out of the receiver. On the pistol grip stock there is a screw in the bottom of the pistol grip. Unscrew it and the pistol grip will come off. There are two screws on the top of the stock. Remove them and tap the stock out of the receiver. A 1/2" wood dowel about 8" long inserted into the receiver aganist the front of the stock and tap it till it comes out.

Thanx JA for the tricks....this is my first attempt at this kind of thing. Goin' into it, i thought that it would be a little easier to jostle the pieces free. A lot of knockin around with the wood blocks and rubber mallot did the trick.....thank you
I still don't know how to get the uppper hand guard off, though. Do people just leave em on for refinishing..?
Stick the metal rear end in a padded vise with it sticking straight up. Twist the wood 180 degrees and it should come off. If not put the wood in the vise with padded vise jaws and use a adjustable wrench on the rear end and twist it 180 degrees. I use the first method and them if it won't turn use method two. Be careful with method two as the first one I did I crushed the edges of the wood. So now I always try method one first.

thank you very much, JA
It was just too hard for me, and I did not have the confindence to keep on trying. I actually took it to a gunsmith friend of mine, and he was able to pop her out within a few minutes.....gonna start the refinishing process soon...can't wait
safe shooting!!!!

how can one post pix w/o going through a http site?
Also, i would love to refinish the exterior metal and other parts that need it (and man do they ever...alot of exposed metal in the guts inside the rec.) and would love to use TR GunKote. Anyone work with the stuff? I know keychain has......I only have access to basic tools and refinishing products. I do work at a paint store and have access to solvents, and touch up sprayers, but i am very hesitaNT about taking on such a product. I don't have a sandblaster, either. I have never worked on guns ever, besides basic field stripping. But, i still would love to advance to the look that keychain has achieved on his MAADIs.

Am in the middle of the refinishing process. I have two coats of hand rubbed boiled linseed oil applied (cut with a little turpentine for penetration into the grain)......Oh my Gosh, it looks friggin teriffic so far!!!!!!!! Can't believe the difference (this is my first refinish of a stock, so bear with my naivety). With a little "love", the Maadi can be a sweet looker, as Keychain has illustrated to us. I am gonna post pix when i am done, probably after Christmas if I decide to redo the metal parts.......Safe Shooting to All!!
