I'm not a fan of the forward ASSist on an AR-15, and would rather not have one on one I would build. At a gun show once, I came accross a stripped upper that the vendor said was FN. I forget what sites it had, but it had an integrated carry handle and caught my attention because it had no forward ASSist.

Anyone know where I could find an upper, stripped or complete, WITH a carry handle and WITHOUT the forward ASSist? I know DPMS makes them without either, but I want the former without the latter.

Found them at Fulton Armory for $150. Look decent, but lower price would be good. The FN one I saw must still be out there...

First of all, FN makes exactly ZERO uppers without a forward assist, and all the uppers they do make with forward assists go to the US Government. They are prohibited by the terms of their M16 contract w/the govt. from producing for the US commercial market. If you nail the BS artists who claim their products are FN to the wall, most of them will finally admit that what they have is "made by the same subcontractor that makes them for FN', That DOES NOT make them FN products, and I, for one, will not do business with any outfit that claims their stuff is FN.

Reference the original question, their are two ways to get ahold of a slick side upper. DPMS offers at least one, and possibly two versions (haven't checked lately) or, if you can live with the original A1 type rear sights, there are some Air Force surplus M16 uppers out there, from the original contract w/Colt. Just got one myself a few weeks ago; essentially new condition, for $125 complete:D

A1 rear sites are fine IF it has a provision for mounting a scope on the carry handle, ie proper dimensions and a hole in the right place. I'm guessing you got a one time deal and can't give me a source on the A1 uppers?

Thoiught you wanted a non forward assist upper. A1 Types have the FA:)

Yup, the one I got at the show was the one non FA he had there, but I did get it from a parts dealer. L. D. McPherson at Southeast Military Parts(www.usgunparts.com) is a good guy to deal with. Been buying parts from him for over 10 years, at shows. He and his daughter, Ashley Ferrouillat, have been a great source of stuff. Good folks to deal with.

One note of caution if you decide to call. Ashley handles the phone inquiries out of her house, and she has a young 'un to deal with. If she's hung up with him at the moment, you'll get the answering machine. Let her know what you want. She'll check w/her dad, and she WILL call you back.

Apart from that, you can check on the www.ar15.com website, if, as, and when they ever get back on line. I have found it a good source of individual parts sales, and a much safer site, in terms of not getting ripped off, than the more general sites.:D

Oh yeah, I did read that A1 uppers have the FA, my bad. So what's the designation for the uppers without FA?

Can anyone explain the advantage of matching uppers to lowers? Is the angle the hammer hits a significant part of accuracy?

Flipped through the SGN and saw that SARCO has uppers w/o FA or casing deflector for $145.
