Loose lower handguard retainer.

I took the lower handguard off my maadi for refinishing. I noticed that the handguard retainer was wigglin around a bit when it was locked back into place. Does anyone know of a way to tighten the fit between the handguard and the retainer so that the lower handguard doesn't move. Thanks.

May sound goofy but tooth picks. Before locking the lever down push a tooth pick in each side and then turn the lever and lock it down. I broke the tips off and used a small hammer to tap them in and then tapped the lever down.
