I also got my two kits from PA today. The kits are nice but not as good as the K-var kits. One thing I do like is the laminated upper hand guard. Now I need to find the lower one.

Ok, these are just the parts piled on my scanner, so the quality isn't that good. The finish is better than it looks in the pics - it is just from the glare.

the k-var kits are fully finished, and i think they include the sling. and the receiver modification drawings are enclosed.
pa's kits have several parts shipped in the white.
still, the pa kit i received was all new parts, shipped well, complete and went together nicely.
is the $50 difference in price significant for the differences...no way. you get what you pay for.

Steve,
Why do you say that the PA kits are nice but not as nice as the K-VAR kits? Aren't they both from the same manufacturer in Bulgaria?
Thanks,
Phil

KVAR kits don't include the trunnion,do they?
If they do I'll order the KVAR kit just to save the time refinishing.I have been having a hell of a time getting anyone on the phone at either KVAR or Progressive so I can get my kit ordered.

Let me know about the trunnion thing if you don't mind.

If you are talking about the AKS-74U 5.45x39mm parts kit from K-VAR, yes the barrel trunion is included in kit. Price was $249.95

I have assembled Krinkovs from both KVAR and PA kits. Here is the difference:
PA kits do not have the front and rear sight blocks pressed on. Not a big deal, but it takes some time to press them and they HAVE to be line up exactly straight.
KVAR gives you a magazine and fancy packaging. Mag is worth $15 extra.
$35 difference? I'd get the KVAR to avoid having to press the sight blocks which takes at least 45 minutes to do it right. Also if you screw up the front sight block alignment you are not going to eject shells very well since the gas port will not work.
I do appreciate PA getting the price down to the actual retail price though.

you got it, dave! i feel both kits are priced right (for what you get.).
the complete finish on the k-var kit adds a little, too, imo. did you get a sling with your k-var kit? p.a. charges $7 for the sling...and no mag.

There is one other difference that has not been mentioned. The K-var kit does not include the trigger guard assembly which is $34 extra.
