Progressive said they would ship in about 2 weeks. Thats all right though, since I'm gonna cancel my order for my kit, with all this legal bullshit up in the air now (Trunnion replacement)

I'll hold off for the 7.62 version.

Trunion replacement is NOT a problem. Just transfer the serial number to the receiver. No worries.

Is the kvar kit worth the extra 50 bucks? Does it come with the trunion already affixed to the barrel? If go w/ PA how hard to affix trunion to barrel(what tools)?

The barrel is assembled and pressed into the trunion on the kvar kit. you do have to pin it though. You have to rivit it to the trunion.. need rivit tools.

You mean to tell me nobody on this list is impatient and wanted a kit overnight mailed?

I would like to see a pic of this kit from progressive and I would like my other post answered on if the barrel is together or if it needs work. Thanks.

I asked for overnight delivery, but they said that they aren't even in sellable units yet, just a bunch of parts.
Thats when they said that it'll be 2 weeks before they start shipping them.
So I cancelled the overnight shipping...
I might buy a K-Var kit also...

I have a 7.62mm Krinkov K-VAR kit,and the barrel is NOT pressed into the trunnion. The parts such as the combination front sight/gas block assembly, receiver cover hinge block, and the lower forward grip retainer, are all assembled (pressed)on to the barrel, but these assemblies ARE NOT PINNED TO THE BARREL yet with their respective cross pins. I hope this helps.

Trunnion replacement may be a problem, Bardwell, and NFA lawyer, said that would be defacing the serial number, Mike Prewitt wrote ATF to get it in writing to make sure that it is OK to replace the trunnion. most likely, they will say no, it isn't OK, because acutually you are removing the serial numbers from the gun. I can't find anywhere in my new 2000 ATF law book that says removing the serial numbers is OK.

Oh I only canceled one 5.45 kit, just in case!!

But also reemmber that as doing a Form 1 YOU are the manufacturer of that gun.
putting a serial number on the reciever then would be part of making that gun.
Transcribe the original (preban) number onto the reciever, so you can keep your preban value...
BUT lets all just wait for the official letter to return and then we all can see what we can do.(not being sarcastic either)

If you were manufacturing a new firearm, it would not be a preban, on the form 1 it asks for the description and markings of the exsisting firearm. I don't it makes since that you can't remove the serial number from the gun, but the trunnion isn't considered the gun by ATF just another part. I think that is were we are at. Lets wait and see. I'll be ready to build a krink either way.

Why is BATF now saying that Parts kits are now serialized? Trunnion blocks are not recievers at fucking all. Does anyone see where this is going- soon you will have to fill out paperwork just on parts kits also!

HOWDY,
WE'VE ORDERED TWO 5.45 KITS FROM K-VAR AND THEY ARE DAMN GOOD KITS,THEY'RE BRAND NEW AND UNASSEMBLED CONDITION,(NO RETAINER PIN HOLES, NO RIVETS),AND THE ONLY THING PUT TOGETHER WAS THE FRONT& REAR SIGHT POST PRESSED ON THE BARREL.
I WILL LET YOU IN ON A SECRET THOUGH I'AM IN CONTACT WITH THE OWNER AT BLUE RIDGE PERCISION IN NC. ABOUT MANUFACTURING KRINKOVS, SO FAR IT'S A GO AS LONG AS YOU ARE APPROVED FOR YOUR "FORM 1" AND HAVE SENT IN YOUR $200.00. HE ALSO HAS THE RECEIVERS FOR BOTH THE 47&74(HUNGARIAN FEG'S),AND AS YOU GUYS PROBABLY ALREADY KNOW THEY MANUFACTURE THEIR OWN U.S. TRIGGER KITS SO IT WILL BE MADE TOTALLY LEGAL. NOW THE RECEIVERS AS YOU'LL SEE IN THE SPEC'S WHEN YOU RECEIVE YOUR KITS, WILL REQUIRE QUITE A FEW MODIFICATIONS, BUT THE AVARAGE PRICE TO BUILD AN AK BY THEM IS $295.00, AND IF IT REQUIRES MORE TIME THIER NORMAL SHOP PRICE IS $75.00 AN HOUR. WE DO NOT KNOW HOW LONG THIS WILL ACTUALLY TAKE PASS THE NORM. FOR A STANDARD AK, BUT I WILL LET YOU KNOW AS SOON AS MINE IS FINISHED, UNLESS SOMEONE BEATS ME TO BE FIRST IN LINE! I'AM ALSO GETTING THEM TO BUILD ME AN RPK FROM A ROMANIAN KIT I GOT FROM I.O..
GOOD LUCK!

OH YA, ALSO ABOUT FEG RECEIVERS,THE 7.62 STILLS HAS THE TRUNNION BUT THE 5.45 DOESN'T,IF THAT MAKES ANY DIFFERENCE EXCEPT FOR THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS. AS FAR AS THE SERIAL NUMBERS, MY KITS HAVE NO SERIAL NUMBERS AND HAD PLANNED ON THE ONES ON THE RECEIVERS TO TAKE CARE OF THAT SITUATION...

AKdude-
the ak barels are pinned in with a hardened steel pin for that purpose,a rivet would be way too soft.the trunion is riveted to the reciever but those are harder rivits than are available in the us and should be the imported rivets for this purpose.Don't know if they come with the kits but they are available from various importers.
The rest of the rivets in the reciever should be ok with us rivets,I think. Thanks to Mike P. for this info.
