Want to talk about money for a sweet 5.45 RPk build? Kit is $800, 'bout $550 cheapest for a 5.45 Verp, probably $200 just to weld up the rear end of the Vepr, $250-300 for a gunsmith to build it, and to top it off $350 for a plum 45rd RPK mag. So over $2000 for a bad ass RPK and then you still have to find a ribbed upper for the coup de grace. Sounds like fun!:D

He is right on the money dude....if you want the real thing in semi auto form, that's what it costs! BUT, you probably won't find the plum 45 round mag or ribbed upper, or want to shell out for the $800 parts kit. You can of course go wood/bakelite too, and 45 bakelite mags are out in there in decent quantity. But you are still talking close to $2K. Not for the timid or weak!
High fives to "Krazy!" you da man!

You guys were right - dang RPK-74 kits are expensive and only KVAR has 'em!
Not too long ago, though, an RPK-47 kit could be had for a couple of hundred bucks. Interordnance and FAC had 'em for that or less.
KVAR's $799 RPK'74 kit is a bit to frickin' expensive for me.:sex:
Anyhow, I still have the KVAR '74 Bulgarian kit and the AK103 side folder stock.
Anybody interested in a trade deal on something, let me know. Primary interests are AK and AR related.
Thanks again,
Jim

All the .30 cal RPK kits that came in through I/O were shot out beat up Romanian guns from 1965-1970. They weren't worth much more than $150. A real Russian RPK kit would be easlily worth $500, and although I think KVAR is a little steep on the Bulg
RPK-74 kits, they are and will ever only be the only game in town
in my opinion. These just aren't going to be coming in the USA anymore. You are really paying for the barrel, as other parts can be substituted for the most part. Hang on to your other kit too...trust me.

Follow up on my kit . i have a $500 dollar a day limit om my debit card . After spending 20 mins on the phone with my bank they tell me they can boost that up to a grand for unlimited use .
But only for ofur hours - last time i checked unlimited meant for ever no ? Anyhow to go around this pain in the ass K-var sales rep quickly solves the situation by charging me half price one day and half price the next - poof problem solved ! Thank you K-var , you kick ass !:D

Hey jonny, heads up, you will need an RPK trun. (sold seperatly) unless your using a VEPR, tearing down an already built gun or have one laying around already.

That would be cool man! Not many places to do the AK thing here though. Lansing is about the closest. :(
Or Willis' place. :)

Nice thread - I just picked up the KVAR RPK-74 kit myself and I have a few questions I hope someone can answer... Do I need a special trunnion to build this beast? Any suggestions for US fire control groupds to use? Is there a good source for 45rd mags for this sucker? I have a couple but need some more!

You can install the RPK-74 barrel assembly in any AK-74 5.45x39mm receiver. Receiver in pic is a Romanian ROMAK II

Actually no timkel, RPK-74 trunion journal diameter is .908"
like the Russian AKM, Russian RPK .30 cal, and I believe all the Romanian guns regardless of caliber, HOWEVER, standard Russian AK-74 trunions (and Bulgarian) are .868" diameter.
So, if you are using a OOW receiver with a Bulg AK74 trunion, you will have to turn the barrel down (DON'T DO IT MAN!).

Ok, we know what we can't do to build the 74 KVAR RPK, but can someone tell us exactly what receiver, trunnion, etc. are necessary to build KVAR kits into functional RPKs? Let's have a list and process sheet. (Spoken like an engineer :) )

I picked up a Romanian trunnion size 23mm = .910" so it should work! Any source for 45 rounders?
