View Full Version : KVAR 5.45 trunion-Why only 2 rivet holes? Can I use SAR-2's trunion?

I see that the KVAR's 5.45 trunion has only two holes on each side. Normal? Do I need three on each side or is 2 OK?

Next question--If I get a Romanian 5.45 SAR-2, can I just leave that trunion in? Will KVAR Krink bolt fit?

If so they say I'll need a sleeve because the KVAR barrel is a smaller diameter than the Romanian trunion hole. I hear that Murray Urbach makes these sleeves. But how the hell would you keep it in place while pressing in the barrel?

Thanks in advance for any answers,

Ted, If you don't get an answer, don't feel bad, I'm not getting any answers either.

I beleive that the romanain 74 bolt is its own design, but I'm not postive.

As for your first questions, I'm not sure.

The romanian trunion has the same rivit pattern, looks the same.. but the Bulgarian bolt will not lock up in it. Heres a pic of a Romanian bolt, and Bulgarian bolt...

See the bigger locking lug on the bulgarian bolt (on left)??
I guess if you modified the romanian trunion so that it would lock up, looks like it would work. Also the romanian bolt will not work in the krinkov carrier, but I think a little grinding would solve that problem.
So maybe, you could use the romanian trunion, romanian bolt, and grind on the bulgarian carrier to make it work.

New trunnions only have two holes. You will need to drill the third before you press the barrel in. Simply place the new trunnion inside your receiver, insert a rivet in each of the 4 holes, and drill the other two holes with the appropriate size drill bit using the existing hole in the receiver as a guide. This will ensure the holes will line up in your receiver.
