Moderation of topic threads

Considering some of the off-topic tangents that sometimes come up, as well as offensive posts like the recent gay porn troll, I was just wondering if there is some way that the initiator of a thread can moderate their own thread, other than just closing it and letting it die (or is THAT even an option anymore)?

He can edit/modify his own thread is all. He he decides to delete his thread, then all the posts are gone as well.
