View Full Version : Krinks for the uninformed...
Ok.. see alot of talk about Krinks and building one up...but I have a few basic questions that I have never really seen answered.
1. These "kits" that you can get from K-VAR and the likes...are they designed for the AK-74 type receiver? As in, can I buy a 74 semi-auto receiver and build a Krinks based on that and a kit?
2. What exactly is the SBR fee? (what does it mean, and how much exactly)
3. What would YOU do if you wanted to build one?
I agree that the Krinks is a sweet set-up, but I am not sure exactly what it's going to take to obtain/build one.

Whew....you haven't been paying attention, have you??
Receiver- yes, AK74 stamped (milled needs a barrel sleeve if you just gotta have a milled receiver)
SBR fee - $200 - do paperwork first with ATF (Short Barreled Rifle)
Postban - no folding stock (weld or pin open), no flash hider (gun probably won't cycle)
What would I do? Make sure everything's legal. I'm not going to jail; I wanna trip Janet Reno if I ever see her walking down the street.
Um...... I think that's it. If I think of anything else I'll post later.

Alright that all makes sense...and is basically what I gathered from the forums.. I just wanted to verify.
With all that said, know of any good place to get 74 receivers? Or am I going to have to hack up a full 74 just for the receiver?

The only recievers I have seen are from tenn guns and they are 7.62, I guess they will work, but will take a small amount of fabing. I was planning on building a reciever, but I haven't got all the bugs worked out yet. Does anyone have a source for 5.54 recievers? Thanks.
yeah..I noticed that too.. TennGuns having only 47 type receivers. If I find any in 545 I'll post....unless someone holier than thou posts first... =/

ah! now I see why:
as per http://kalashnikov.guns.ru/wwwboard/board4/messages/508.html
"I had the same question as you at the same time. Let me guess: You want to build a Krinkov, know where to get an AK_47 receiver but not an AK-74 receiver, and don't want to buy a whole AK-74 for just the receiver.
That was my question, too. The Answer: They are the same. The cartridges are both 39mm long, so the magazine-hole is the same size. The only difference between a post-ban receiver and a pre-ban receiver is its legality. So buy a maadi receiver from sksman for $200 and go for it, my friend."

Assuming that the previous post is true... and I went with a milled receiver just for the sake of durability, where would one find the barrel sleeve? (does anyone have a starter picture of what things look like? Beyond the kit...)

I don't think there's a barrel sleeve for sale since it would have to be specially fitted to the barrel anyway, it's a cheapo part. Any gunsmith who has the ability to put one on your barrel can make one so they'll just add a spacer, turn it down in a lathe, and install your barrel. They probably won't sell you one cause they want to do the barrel installation too if they make a spacer. That way no one can come back on them if the purchaser does something incorrectly.

Here is my plan IF I would build one (From what I can tell this would be legal and in now way breaking the LAW)
ak47/74 reciever stamped post ban OR
Homemade reciever (I never intend on selling the gun so I would not be a criminal, unless I sell the gun)
Correct # of import parts 10
Correct # of us parts, however many It would take
Stock Welded open
Barrel extended to 16.25" by a fake suppressor (which should have no effect on the operation of the gun. Anybody know for sure?)
If in the future If one would want to make it a SBR they could obtain the SBR permit and remove the FAKE suppressor. Any body else thinking along this line? Not that I plan on building one, Just Food for the Brain.
