Now this is what you call a Curio. This is one of the odd lot rifles I got from Century last week when I was out of town. It is a FN Model 1940 (according to Century never heard of a model 1940 personally but Im not up on all the FN stuff) Parade Rifle (Mauser) in 30-06 caliber. This is a pretty cool rifle IMO. It struck me as kind of pimpy at first with all the chrome but after cleaning it tonight I fell in love with it. The rifle is in VG+ shape. There are some dings in the stock, more of a finish wear than gouges nothing deep. The stock has a dark brown finish on it so the wear in the finish shows. The buttplate and rear sight leaf have some tarnish on the chrome but I should be able to hit that with some brasso or nevr dull to shine it up. The rifle is fully functional and complete, including cleaning rod. No sling. I'll have to find a pimpy parade sling to go with her. The crest on the receiver ring is pretty well worn can't make out all the writing. The receiver side clearly has the FN Belgium markings Fabrique nationale des Armes Belgium etc. No model number or date. All numbers match the only numbers are on the bolt and receiver, the floorplate is unmarked. The bore is EX, they probably only shot it during ceremonies and probably mostly blanks. There is some slight bore wear evident though so they shot regular rounds through it as well. Maybe on firing squads for important prisoners?? ;)
Its funny as I was cleaning her up tonight how I was falling in love with her. When I got done cleaning the bore I cycled 5 rounds of 30-06 through it and the action is smooooth as butter, that clinched it. The action is as nice as the Sweedes. Very smooth. I'll be shooting her even if she was made for show. It's a fully functional steel hardened rifle under all that chrome.
Neat neat addition to my Mausers and it only cost me $89.87. Those odd lots can be real winners sometimes. I got three other rifles on that sale and I like them all, the best is yet to come but it will be later in the week when I post them. (The FN24 I got was the dog of the bunch alot of rust but very much salvagable).
Heres some pics of her:

I'll be interested to see how she shoots. From the looks of everything should be a accurate rifle.
