I am now in need of some things for my Yugo M48's. I need:

2 cleaning rods

2 bayonets

2 slings

1 set of the 2 bands for the end of the stock

1 buttplate

Should these rifles have hooded front sights? I thought they would, but they don't. If they are supposed to, I will need 2 of those also.

Is there a way to refinish the stock bands?

The condidtion between the 2 is night and day, although the one that is cosmetically lacking, has better rifling. Go figure. I think I learned to only go with excellent condition, or unissued from now on. The Carcano I got is a dissaster.

Is there a source for this kind of stuff??

www.cdnninvestments.com has slings and bayos (check under their "gun parts" section for the slings).

I may be bordering heresy now, but I'm thinking I may want to refinish all of the metal parts on these guns. They both have some rusty pitting, and one is missing a lot of blueing anyway. What is the best way to go about this? Is refinishing a whole rifle something that I can do at home?

This is my first batch of C&R's, and I've never refinished a gun before, only cleaned and maintaned. I'm feeling a little overwhelmed right now.

You might want to check in the C&R restoration forum about blueing. My only experience is with doing small pieces with a bit of Birchwood Casey cold blue. If it were me I would clean the rifles of the cosmo, I'm sure they're packed with, and work on the stocks with some lemon oil, and acquire the sight hoods, cleaning rods and slings, but leave them as is beyond that. Finish wear gives the rifles character:) (and they probably have been through a war, a nasty civil one at that).

Yes to answer your question the M48/M48A's have front sight hoods.
