I got one in a trade with a good fella up north
everything is NIW except the barrel which is wore. its romanian, so I think its pretty wore.
I can stick a bullet in the muzzle end and it does not go all the way to the casing, aprox. 1/8 of an inch from it. would you replace the barrel or build it? and if you would replace it, where would you get a barrel?

Although my Romanian barrel looks bright, it is shot out too. I believe that the bullet drops down to the casing. I am just going to leave it as is and burn ammo with it. I just want an RPK. I may not even refinish it!

Me too, cept mine will be an exact Russian replica, I even have a real Russian 1965 front trunion and receiver stub which I was going to graft to a Krinks AKM receiver, but I have decided to just build on a .30 cal vepr. My romanian kit is 1965 as well, but the only part I am using Romanian will be the barrel assembly, which is identical to Russian during that time period. I would like I decent barrel, but I won't be shooting it much anyways...

You figure someone could make a tiddy little profit if they made some new barrels.

Mike at the Firing Line took a Wilson brl, I believe, and turned it into a new RPK brl for a friends Romanian kit. In fact, he built it on the milled receiver. You might check with him and see what he can do for you.
Oh, I can get a barrel custom made, just don't want to spend $600 to do it.
But, I'll follow up on your advise and check Firing Line out, thanks.
