I don't have any interest in them. No (I'll be politically correct here;) ) Japanese rifles either.
Weren't most rifles from South America manufactured by the European SuperPowers and sold to the primitive South American countries ?

I just picked up my first South American milsurp 3 months or so ago. I bought a 1891 Argentine in 7.65x 54 Argentine caliber. I am now actively looking for a '08 or '09 Argy carbine. The fit, finish, and function of the manufacturers, Loewe and DMW, is very nice. The 7.65 Argentine ammo is also available. Most is old milsurp corrosive, approx. $100/1k, but '70's and 80's non-corrosive milsurp is available for $130/900. I bought some of the non-corrosive for the WV shoot. Not super accurate, but sure fire and definitely non-corr. I think I may want to take a look at some of the Mexican and Central American 7x57 Mausers as well. from what I have seen they are nice shooters, but not much milsurp ammo. There are some nicely made weapons in this area of collection, but seemingly not a whole lot of interest from the collecting community as a whole.

No...There Are(And Were) Many Factories Producing Firearms In Central And South America...Some Using Licenses From European(And U.S.) Companies Like Mauser,Colt,Fabrique National...ect.
But Most Were Government Owned And Made Their Own Designs And Weapons.
Argentina,Chile,Brazil Have both Private And Government Companies That Make Everything From .22's All the Way Up To Howitzers.

Some are a little rougher made than others, but the German made rifles are top notch in construction and material. I don't have a complete list of all the countries they made rifles for,or the dates, but at the time that Argentina started taking deliveries of the 1891 Mauser (i think in 1892?) these were the latest in rifle design firing a smokeless powder cartridge.

Whew, for anyone looking to do SoAm milsurps, that's a significant undertaking!
Chile, Argentina, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Brazil, Bolivia, Uruguay, Paraguay, Guatemala (OK, that one's CenAM), and probably a few that I am forgetting.
Then compound that by the various different models of just Mausers that each country had, starting with the carbines and the long rifles and through the various short rifles, from the different European factories, different calibers, indigenous production by Brazil, etc., etc. . .
This could run into money, as the shopkeeper said to the monkey as it urinated on the cash register.
Good luck!

I collect them. Nicest Mausers made (imho). The DWM and Ludwig Loewe Mausers leave little to be desired. Fit and finish is better than even the Swedish Mausers so many claim to be the *finest* Mausers produced.
Yes, I have Swedes also, but the slickest Mausers I own say either DWM or Ludwig Loewe on them.
Best of Luck,
Slim
