Is it a matter of taking off the front handgaurd and attaching hardware. And can you keep the side folder. I have a romak992 single stack donor receiver so that should eliminate one evil feature? Any comments ?? Thanks

If you weld the mag into the gun, and get rid of the stock you can make a pistol, otherwise, you will have to get the weight below, 60oz, i beleive, and remove the front hanguard..

I forgot, you can't turn a rifle into a pistol, once a rifle always a rifle, but you can start with a bare receiver, and work from there.

Ugh!

d&ts has it right, once a rifle always a rifle. You need to start with a virgin receiver and do all the pistol paperwork on it.

If you want a detachable mag, good luck! Weight has to be below 50 oz and can not have a handguard. Weight is the hardest thing to overcome.

Professional ordinance makes an AR-15 pistol out of carbon fibers, it only weighs 48 oz.

If you really want a short AK, probably the only way you will get one is if you make an SBR.

Ugh!

Oh yeah if you want the side folding stock, you need to make it an SBR! Pistols can not have stocks. So if you want the folding stock, you need to find and pre-89 rifle, fill out the forms for an SBR, then have a smith turn the Pre-89 rifle into a Krink. If you don't mind having the stock permanently fixed in the open position you can use a post-89 receiver, which is a lot cheaper.

If you live in Michigan A rifle under 30" is a pistol. I took a Mini-14 to the cop shop and had it registered as a pistol in a bullpup stock and then took it back in another stock with no sholder stock on it, just the pistol grip and they said that it would be OK.

Whatever you do - DON'T make a 5.45x39 pistol!!! If you do, any chance of getting 5.45 steel core in the future will be nil, as that caliber could then be classified as a pistol round, and importing AP pistol rounds is a nono. The same thing happened to 7.62 when some jackasses (oly arms???) made a prototype 7.62x39 pistol. Even though the gun was never put into production, .gov got a whiff of it and put 7.62x39 steel core on the "bad" list.

If you want an AK pistol with detachable mag, do it as an AOW. Virgin receiver, no buttstock, use a block for the rear trunnion, two pistol grips-one regular and one under forend. Diversifed Metal Works (Class 2 manuf.) is going to build them in a few weeks. This is an NFA weapon and requires a $5 transfer tax from the dealer/manufacturer.

It can be built in 5.45, but 5.56 and 7.62 are also available for extra money.

I second that. Don't make a 5.45 pistol. I want military 5.45 bad.

Pa, don't have an exact price yet. A meeting is coming up to set that. The first post sample full auto company gun has almost been finished, and everything went smoothly. There are a few final details such as parkerizing. The turnkey price will be around $850. They will have a rear receiver block with sling mount. There is going to be a front pistol grip as required for an AOW and this probably will be a metal lower. The only additional expense is your home state Class 3 dealer's charge for handling the transfer.

What DaveL111 said is the way to go for those of you that want AK pistols. I have one in 7.62. The virtical foregrip makes it easier to hold and control, and if you pick one up already put together it's only a $5.00 transfer.
