View Full Version : Tokarev misfeeds

:confused:I don't know if this has already been addressed on this forum, but I have a Polish TT-33 that I've had about a year and a half.
As time has gone by, along with may boxes of S&B 7.62, my Tokarev has started to mash brass up. It now does this consistently. This also means I now have misfeeds about every 3 to 8 rounds, which is obviously rather frustrating. The brass gets caught in the ejection port, and sometimes requires me to partially drop the mag, remove the offending case, and chamber the next round.

Anyone have any suggestions or know a gunsmith that works on Toks that I can send this to? No gunsmiths in my AO will work on com-bloc stuff ("What, THAT Russian piece of >expletive<? hahaha, buy American, you fool hahaha!").

Those types of failures are many time caused by mag problems, including mags that are dirty inside. Diasassemble the mag and clean it thoroughly, and do NOT oil it prior to assembly. Oily mags attract dust and dirt.

Try different mags if you can, making sure that they are clean.

Likewise, have you disassembled and cleaned the pistol itself? I just had a Dan Wesson revolver across my bench that hung up when cocked single-action. Besides the ejector rod detent ball being loose in the recoil shield, the thing was FILTHY and all ti took was a good cleaning and a couple drops of oil. No offense, but some folk don't do basic cleaning and maint.

The extractor may be dirty or sticking as well. Remove the slide from the frame and push on the extractor with a small screwdriver. Does it stick or does it feel gritty? If so it needs cleaned.

HTH,

Noah

Hmmm, it has been a while since I hit the mags after the range..
I suspected the extractor too, but I'm unsure if there's a way I can pull the extractor out for a good cleaning. Otherwise, I'm usually pretty anal about keeping my weapons clean - at least a wipedown after every range session, and more thorough every two or three sessions. I've been meaning to get a few more mags for carry use anyhow.

For sure, weapon maintenance can save your life though.

Herjan;
Listen to Noah. He is pretty smart about this stuff. Since Feodor disigned this fine weapon with feed lips within the frame the only problem you could have with the mags. is weak spring tension on feed (not) or contaminated(dirty) casings mucking up chamber, cooking during ignition. Another condition which causes STOVE PIPING in this weapon is in the HAMMER lock works. Quick Scrub spray then follow with Break Free, let drain, follow with good gun oil. Next tooth brush clean slide&frame rails follow with good gun
oil. Make sure you have cleaned all cosmoline out of chamber. It seems to keep coming out of the pores for awhile. Turns into some sticky stuff when exposed to that kind of heat.
Anyway those conditions mentioned eariler absorb energy during extraction. Sometimes the slide doesn't really travel quick enough to cause the ejector to kick the casing clear of the ejection port before being traped by same while closing.
Just spray clean extractor & oil. It should be okay. Drop floor plate & springs on mags.., wipe out with a little Break Free, follow with dry wrag. your ready to HAMMER,..or Rock! S&B is good ammo 1544 ft/sec. - 450ft. lbs. "I LOVE THIS GUN" (ROBOCOP).
I don't think we need no stinking gunsmith, for this! Noah's right.
Just keep it CLEAN & SMOOTH & PERFECT (FULL METAL JACKET).
Wait...there's that knock at the door again.......

HERJAN:
One more thing,...at the door Feodor said there is also the remote possibilty should the recoil spring become so weak it no longer provides any dampening effect to the rearward motion of the slide, the slide could rebound off of the slide stop harder, & faster than in his original design. Thus, cycling faster than intended, it could trap the spent cartridge before it completed
ejection. Mine did. Rough on slide stop & frame too!
I had all those problems plus a broken sear spring....full auto!!!....
Oh nooo !!! The knock at..................

I have never had a jam with my Chineese Tokarevs, but my Polish do it all the time. They don't quite chamber the round. Either fluffing and buffing or a new recoil spring is in order for me.

Rounds that will not eject:
1) Ammo to wimpy
2) slide on frame too sticky
3) bad extractor
4) bad ejector

I have never seen a semi auto pistol jam that I could not fix, but one was very challanging. The Para Ord P10 very short 1911: The semi wad cutter bullets must be seated to 1.275" or it will jam.
