 I have never seen an RPK-74 with a ribbed receiver top cover. I have seen the regular RPK with the ribbed top cover. Did the Russians ever produce an RPK with a ribbed receiver top cover?

Did the Russians ever produce an RPK-74 with the ribbed receiver top cover? That was my question.

Nope, not that I know of....they (Vyjatski Polyani) switched to a heavier gauge smooth cover during the .30 cal production run and never looked back...

Thank you for your help. Do you know why they used the smooth covers? Did they have problems with the ribbed cover?

No, I don't think there were any problems with ribbed ones..... smooth ones were just simpler to make I guess..... remember we are talking about a different plant, so I am sure that has something to do with it... Maybe weight wasn't a concern on the RPK series....
