Saw the TEC-9, AB10 question and was wondering if anybody knows what thread is on the TEC-9 barrel?

I'm curious also...... hmmmmm, maybe I can put a muzzle-brake on my AB-10 after all.

Dickie,
Your After Ban-10 can't have the barrel extension or recoil compensator installed on it like you can with a TEC-9. At best, you could have a machinist make a recoil compensator patterned after a known design, and have it permanently affixed to the barrel. Remember, it cannot be a FLASH HIDER, only a recoil compensator (generally ported to the top to prevent muzzle climb)
What Repairman stated certainly applies to rifles. I am no expert in legal issues, but isn't the law different for pistols as opposed to rifles?
Example; Federal Arms sells all kinds of threaded barrels, compensators, flash hiders, etc. for pistols.
Seeing as the AB-10 is a pistol, what do you think?

Repairman, Aside from the legal pre-ban/post-ban issues, why can't I thread my barrel. What would physically be the problem? Is the exterior of the barrel end where the threads are different in size on an AB-10 as opposed to a Tec-9?
Just got me curious of the logistics of it all, Dickie

Unless I mis-understood what I have read, the Tec-9 falls into a different category than a regular pistol becasuse it's magazine is outside of the grip. Basically it is classified as an assault weapon/pistol because of this and its weight and the fact it has no useful purpose outside of total carnage. http://www.ak-47.net/akcgi/biggrin.gif
Dickie,
There isn't enough metal to cut a 3/4-10 thread on an AB-10, but if your AB-10 has the same barrel O.D. as the tip of my Tec-9 (0.550 inch) you could thread it to 1/2-28 (after cutting 50 thousandths off the O.D.) and use any AR-15 barrel accessory. [1/2-28 is a standard barrel thread size] But, once again, it would have to be tac-welded in place IF indeed it is legal to put a muzzle brake on that particular gun.

Key words of legal issues. That about says it all. Unless you live in the swamp with a bunch of toothless banjo pickers that have the Feds scared shitless to enter, where are you going to shoot an illegally modified gun? Might as well make the open bolt out of 0-1and install the foregrip (effectively making a KG-99 subgun) If you are going to go to jail, it might as well be for a decent set of felony charges. My friend has an AB-10, and yes, it looks like a neutered Tec-9. Save up $300-350 and buy a real Tec-9, Tec-DC9. The barrel extensions are still available for $50 and recoil comps are around $25. I'm taking mine to the range tomorrow along with my UZI model A carbine and my P-89. Having legalassault pistols/carbines is only fun if you can shoot them in front of other people (especially in front of folks that don't like them ! http://www.ak-47.net/akcgi/biggrin.gif ) Stay straight, shoot straight

I recently had a pre-ban Tec-9 with extension, brake, casde and 3 extra mags. Sold it for $ 250. and was glad to see it go. The internals on those are really cheezy! Fun little item, however! Just ordered a suppressed MAC 10 in FA - equally useless but even more fun!!! Boys and their toys!

The 94 ban also applies to pistols, it's just a different set of evil features. For handguns you can have one(1), over 50 oz, magazine outside the pistol grip, threaded barrel, barrel shroud, etc.
So the threaded barrels that Fed Arms sells would be legal if they are the ONLY evil feature on the weapon.
