I don't know what "bad things" you've heard but keep in mind that all the manufactures release a percentage of "bad things".
Bushmasters are fine rifles and the only company that chrome-lines all their barrels (if that is important to you). They also seem to have good customer service. I guess it would depend on what rifle/configuration you are looking for. I like some Bushmaster models better than others but I think RRA & Colt produce better Postban M4 models.

Let me know what model you are thinking about and we can take it from there.

Welcome to the group, NightFire !!!

Yes, every manufacturer lets one bad one get out the door now and then, but to condemn all Bushmasters is not right. I have a couple of Bushmasters, and both of them are nothing short of dreams. My XM15 E2S 20" H-BAR is a tack driver, and with just the iron sights, I can keep all rounds in the black at 100 yards. Last time I had it out, my friend who was spotting for me started to get bored. After I had fired 100 rounds at 100 yards, seated, no rest, using only the iron sights, he looked at me and asked if I could miss just once. :D

Bushmaster makes one of the best ARs on the market today, and if you buy one from the right place, they are among the lowest priced ARs going. Yes, I speak after sampling just two, but my two are perfect, so as far as I am concerned, they all must be, right? ;)

I think you will be very happy with a Bushy.

It's certainly worth the investment and it's a Bushmaster so it will provide trouble free, reliable service for many, many years and thousands upon thousands of rounds.

However, if we're talking M4 type AR's I prefer the Colt M4 6400c or the DPMS M4 that CMMG (http://www.cmmginc.com) for the following reasons:

1. The Colt and the DPMS both use chrome-lined, 4150, 1-7 twist in their barrels. The Bushmaster uses 1-9. Not that big of a deal it's just that I like 1-7 to stabilize the heavier rounds.
2. The Colt and the DPMS both come with the M4 feed ramps.
3. The Colt and the DPMS both come with the fatter M4 hand guards. The Bushy comes with standard carbine hand guards.
4. The Colt comes with a side-sling mount.
5. The Colt comes with RAS numbered flattop upper.
6. The Colt comes with a full 16" barrel.
7. The DPMS comes with a 14.5" barrel but has a Cavalry Comp muzzle brake while the Bushmaster has a Mini-Y. I don't like the Mini-Y because it's loud, throws all the gases back in your face and gives me a headache. The Cav Comp is a very good compensator and is hardly noticeable.

These are all personal preferences of course but I think the Colt and DPMS are a better value as far as post-ban M4's go.

Of course, YMMV

thanks for the reply, I guess i'm looking at the Bushy for the mere fact I can go pick it up at lunch from AIM Surplus (http://www.aimsurplus.com/acatalog/copy_of_XM15_E2S_16__M4_A2_Carbine.html) as they're just up the road from where I work. I'm lazy I suppose? ;)

Like I said, you can't go wrong with the Bushy M4. It's a fine rifle and will server you well. On top of that, Bushmaster's excellent customer service will be there if you need them (which I doubt you will). The only thing I would do with it would be to send the upper to Kurt's Kustom Firearms and have the Mini-Y replaced with one of his A3 TacBrakes. IMO it's just as effective as the Mini-Y, looks MUCH better and is not obnoxious.

Edited to add: it's a damn good thing I don't live/work close to AIM or I'd be living in a cardboard box (with one hell of a gun collection). Some people have all the luck ;)

It looks sweet, I'm planning on getting an EOtech 510(AA) and a Wilson Combat flip rear site.;)
Is that the normal muzzle brake on yours??

This is my Bushy m4/a3, it started out as a superlight, changed the hanguards to a calvary arms set, added the cav arms break and shortened the barrel with the brake to legal limit.
This weapon has had over 3000 rounds through it, and at one point 1500 without cleaning at all in desert conditions here in AZ.
TRUE- my sar 1 jammed three or four times while this baby fired like a dream under the same conditions, a real pleasure to own and shoot. Eotech is on the way as well!
Nice rifle RJ!

I would say Bushmaster is the way to go, great rifles all around.
My 2 cents of course!

Just make sure you get one that isn't purple. I got an upper from them that was purple, sent it back when they offered to exchange it and then they sent me another purple one although not as bad as the first. At that point I said oh well and kept it since it was like 3 months I was waiting for the new one. Functions like a champ though. Oh yeah it also has the RAS numbers, the first one didn't.

About the only real complaints you could throw at Bushmaster is the mounting of the FSB before final finishing and their use of the plastic trigger guard... and the trigger guard is a simple changeout.

Every manufacturer can release an occasional lemon. Bushy gets grief, but the only overtorqued barrel I've ever personally seen was on a Colt I purchased NIB. Bushmaster has the best customer service out there and should there ever be a problem, they'll make it right. I'm currently at 5 Bushmaster's and zero problems...

Don't be to jealous, it's an addiction... AR's are more addictive than heroin and even tougher to kick... :D Not that I mind...

Over the years I've turned into a USGI magazine, spare parts, and ammo harlot, forever feeding my addiction. I can't walk through any gun store without fondling each and every AR on the rack. I find Q3131a or LC on sale and I'm as frantic as a junkie needing a fix as I order 2 or 3 cases... the BBT has turned into my supplier, the mule that brings my latest hit to feed the addiction... My house is strewn with parts, completed projects, 50 cal ammo cans, and worn Bushmaster catalogs...

It's not pretty... Do you think there's a support group for people with Black Rifle Sickness? :D

Mated to Olympic arms ultra match fluted barreled uppers, one 16 ich (my babes) and one 20 inch, (mine) . So far in thousands of rounds, zero problems or failures. The Bushies mated perfectly to the Oly uppers, and also function nicely with my .45 ACP Oly arms upper. If you want real fun and an AR that can shoot hard cast lead reloads, this is it. Nice companion to my 1911's. Dalphon has 30 round mags for this gun! Must buy some, must buy some. I have several Oly arms lowers, but I took out all the internals and replaced them with Bushmaster parts. I have the Oly parts stored in my spare parts can.

As a side note on the Oly match barreled uppers,
My 20 inch will drop bowling pins at 400+ yards, every time, with a 3 x 9 scope, shooting off of the hood of my 4 x 4, with no rest except my hand. :sniper:

My babe's Oly CAR with fluted match barrel has standard CAR handguards, but still shoots very accurately. (+-2 inch @ 100 yard 5 shot groups with iron sights) She's no sniper grade shot so it does not matter, it's for defense/survival. Her handguns are a M65 S & W and a M649. She's very good with her pistols..What a babe! :handgun:

The only negitive I've read is that the bolts on Bushys (and any other non-Colt) have a tendency to crack.

do a search for "AR15 deficiencies"
