Hello, the metal ring (front) on my shorty is loose (left to right). What is the best way to fix it? Thanks.

Hum, as far as I know the forward handguard cap is held in place by the gas tube. I wonder if your gas tube actually has play in it? How much play are we taking about? Is it your handguards that are loose or the actual handguard cap? If it's just the handguard cap I would think a little dab of high temp silicon around the gas tube hole would fix it right up. Heck, you can even solve the play in the handguards with a little dab of silicon, either way!

It's just a little loose due to a gap between the hole and gas tube but it's annoying. I would like it solid and was thinking of drilling and tapping a small screw to the block. Sliver solder came to mind but I thing it would just lossen up again.

Thanks for the advice. Bob

A #6 low profile torque head screw works the best.

Just remember to tap both the front clip and the tower, and then use Red loctite to keep the screw in place.

P.S. Don't get too long of a screw or you will block the sight tower gas port.
