and I am thrilled......It has about 95 % of the finish left on it, and the gun is tight everywhere.....Not even any holster wear.....Looks unnisued to me, except for a few small storage dings and what looks like some VERY minor surface rust thats so light it only shows when you rub the gun with an oil soaked rag......Took it out to the family farm for a function test, and stupid me forgot the hearing protection....Needless to say, its one hell of a loud pistol. Had two friends of mine along, standing behind me, and even over the ring of my ears I could still hear Eric say 'goddamn'........
Ordered it through SOG about a month and a half ago.....But, had some problems getting it until now. Overall, very completely thrilled to have it.
My other 'friend', Cami, is a 5/4 105 ib. blond with hands the size of my palms.....She shot a clip through it, and loved it.
Damn, its just a cool pistol....
Any suggestions on removing the 'rust' without damaging the finish? Could I lightly steal wool it?

Congratulations on your purchase of a Tokarev. When you get calmed down a bit, let us know what kind of Tok "it" is, OK? ;)

Seriously, DO NOT use steel wool on your pistol to remove rust pitting. IF you use anything, get a can of Kroil (www.kanolabs.com) and use either BRASS wool or the WHITE scotchbrite pads available at Home Depot or Lowes, or a good hardware or paint store. Saturate the brass wool or white scotchbrite with Kroil and LIGHTLY buff the affected areas.

DO NOT use maroon, green or gray scotchbrite pads as they WILL remove the finish and leave wicked scratches.

HTH, and enjoy your pistol!

yeah, its a Pole........I believe I got one of the last few that SOG had.....A week or so after it was ordered, they took them off there web site.....
Yeah, I want to preserve the finish as much as possible, so I will give the brass a shot. Thanks for the advice....hopefully, in a day or so I will have the time to sit down and go through the entire pistol.....

Good for you!
Finally met the old age requirements, or find a sympathetic soul?

There've been a few times I was so thrilled, to try out a new gun, that I forgot ear protection.
There are times being a smoker comes in handy.
I just remove the filters from a couple of cigs, and voila instant earplugs.

Enjoy your Tok, I know I enjoy mine!!! :D

its my fathers......for the next few weeks. He wanted to do something for me before he moved, and for christmas, and this is it. Do I feel guilty about the arangement? Nope. Besides, in a couple of weeks, I will be 21......So, it doesn't matter. I still find myself getting it out to look at it......Have to get used to it.
Any new tok owner advice? Anything I shouldn't do with it, besides the obvious no-no's with any pistol? I have already researched the gun heavily before I took possession of it, so I doubt there is anything I haven't heard yet....Just the same, and advice for a new owner?

Don't use the slide-stop lever to release the slide.
I rounded the notch, on one of my Poles, doing that.

Pull back the slide to release it.
I've gotten into the habit of doing this on all my pistols.

for minor rust like this, my gunsmith recommended wd40 to me and it works great. no harm to the blueing.

As for the rust.

One of the oldest tricks in the book is to take a shiny copper penny and wet it with a lubricant or cleaner (any one will do since it is intended to reduce friction, not act as a cleaner. Rub it lightly on the rust. The copper will remove the rust through a chemical reaction, but the blue will not be harmed.

Never use steel or steel wool, it will not remove all of the rust and will damage the bluing.

A little FWIW: If you're shooting, you almost always have ear plugs. I've held my tilted my head and right ear against my shoulder to deafen the noise, finger plugged my left and fired a couple of times. IF you can find the brass, it makes a wonderful temporary set of plugs. Eh?;)
