I have just purchased a DPMS 7.62x39 upper for a new build on a gator lower. I have two 10rd. USA brand mags for it but was wondering - is there a such thing as a USGI mag for this cal.
If so are they to be found in the usual 20-30 rd capacity?
If not what would be the best choice for a couple of 20-30 rounders? Thanks,Bob.

I have some of the pre-ban 20 and 30 round USA mags that were converted from AK mags and they work great. I actually perfere the 20 rd. at the range because when shooting off sand bags they dont hang down and hit the bench. I also have 2 75 drums converted from AK drums, they cost 120 dollars prior to the ban. I also have some flat sided 30 rd. mags that look alot like a regular AR mag but they are made out of thin metal and dont always work well. The AK type never jams.:D

For 7.62 x 39mm mags, I have found the best are the ones made by MWG. These are available from Brownells, Arizona Gun Runners, etc. They come in 2 capacities...5 and 10 round,

I have not had luck with High cap mags in the AR design in this caliber. The main reason is the taper of the ammo case...and the straigtness of the AR-15 magazine well. Compare an AR-15 mag side by side to an AK-47 mag and you will see that the 7.62x39mm round needs a magazine with a much greater curve than is possible in an AR-15.

The MWG mags are synthetic, and feed reliably.

To top it off...they are cheap...under $15 each.

Good luck!

USA franken mags work fine.
The DPMS 7.62 AR upper works only with American made ammo (federal AE) and not the Russian stuff, at least in my experiance.
