I just mounted my Eotech 551, and the reticule seems a little strange.
The reticule seems to be made from many small dots to make the reticle shape.
Is this normal?

Try turning the brightness down.

Is this normal? It's a hologram created by a laser. If you look up close at a laser dot pointing on a wall or a piece of paper, you'll see what looks like light particles flying around (because they are). You can also have someone point a laser at your your nose and you'll see all the light particles riding the beam! :p
Yup, just turn it down some. Too high while indoors will look like a halo around the reticle. You shouldn't notice it at all outdoors.
This is mine set just a tad too high for the picture. One click down would be about perfect...

I know his thread is old but I had the same problem. A solution was metioned on another thread: put on/in your glasses/contacts! I just bought my EOTech last night and put it on after taking out my contacts and the reticle was super fuzzy. I had seen what it looks like w/my contacts in when I checked out another guy's EOTech. So, turn down the brightness and make sure you got your eyes on!
