I must admit that these have captured my interest and it is a weapon that want to add to the collection one of these days... Excellent concept and system that has more advantages then I can list...

Hey guys,
I own a Robinson Armament M96 Recon with a Aimpoint Comp M2 mounted via an Arms 22M68 throw lever mount and full spacer. It's a mean looking rifle. I believe I am the only one here in Maui, Hawaii who owns one at this time according to the gun shops here. In fact when placing the order through one of the gun shops here, the owner had not even heard of Robinson Armament or the M96. I had to print out photographs of the rifle and Robinson Armaments info for him so he could order it for me. When taking it to the gun range, I get approached alot and asked "what kind of rifle is that your shooting?" Anyway, it is a beautiful, accurate shooting, and quality made rifle. (Thank's Alex Robinson!) I have not experienced any major problems with the rifle so far except for the pistol grip loosening up during shooting once. It was easily tightened up and the shooting continued with no further problems. I only run Winchester Q3131A ammo in the M96 so I am not sure if running any other type of ammo will cause problems. Calling all other M96 owners out there to start posting and keep this M96 forum going.

I posted something yesterday. I am now the proud owner of an M96 Expeditionary, and can't wait to get to the range with it to try it out!

Almost, just a few items missing from my collection. My dream is a real AK, and not a legally modified one.
The first time I took the M96 apart when we got home from the show, that barrel was a bear. I did what Mr. Robinson recommended and rubbed down the part of the barrel that engaged the lock ring. The second removal went easier. Mine is an old 99 model with none of the upgrades. The big thing to remember on this rifle is that you can release the trigger, then engage the safety. Whatever you do, do not rack the bolt in this condition or you can destroy the trigger. Minor design flaw to live with. I also do not mind the non-chrome lined barrel. I don't shoot corrosive ammo, and I take very good care of my firearms.
Can't wait to get to the range, but I will wait until the temperature gets above freezing, and the wind drops below 20 mph!

I was thinking about getting a M96. First time I ever saw one and I liked it pretty good. They have it at Cabela's in East Grand Forks listed for sale at $1399. Is that too high? Also I noticed that it is welded together in some places... is this good to be on a rifle? Don't welds break under stress? Just wondering

Done right, welds are no problem, as long as they are heat treated properly. With Robinson Arms, I have no doubt that they did it right.
As for price, that is about the top of what you should pay. On the auction sites, they are going for $1400 +/- $50.

Imanaknut,
Congrats on your M96. They are truely nice weapons. I have had mine over two years and love to shoot it. Chrome lined recon barrels are avail thru Robinson Arms and add a better frontend balance to your weapon. Also check out the following website for info on the new beltfed upper coming out soon.

Nice! Looks to be a 308 model!

Not a 308 model. I recognize the color codings of the bullet tips as 5.56 NATO indicators of tracer or SS109 bullets.

Thanks for your reply BRG3. Recon, sorry I missed your earlier reply. Yes, the conversion is (was) 5.56, but the mystery is if this will ever be produced. The link to a website is no good, and I have heard no update on the conversion. It looks to be a mockup and with no real intent to manufacture or market.. Not sure it even worked, probably never got out of R&D. Too bad, belt feed would be nice. Supposedly, the conversion was seen at last years Knob Creek, but to my knowledge none were seen in action. Orginally, the BF was promised by Robinson Arms, but that so far, has been a hollow promise. Glad to see some responses and post here.

It would be great to have Alex post an update on new products, ideas, and what his company is doing. That would be outstanding.
