View Full Version : Question On Gas System?

Okay what makes your new type for the M16 better than Robinson Arms M96? I ask this because Alex is really pursuing the Military on his rifle!

12-13-2003, 05:03 PM
It's not a completely new system, & logistics favor 90% of the parts that are already in the pipeline. Thx.

That's it. I'm pulling this down/off. I've already been w/Ryan@RA. Their unit is too heavy. I'm not getting into some kind of pissing match, not again. I'm taking my little red pocket book and going home. Thx.

It's not a question of being better (that question's already been answered). It's just different. I am producing it. I'm just not opening it up to discussion of same here for all to see. I know what I've got. Pics will stay on my website. In regard to gov't work, I've got an entirely new product to introduce to the military, while this particular upgrade in the evo of the 16 will remain a quiet revolution. Let's move forward, not backwards. Thx.
It's cool, man. I like cool runnings. You just gotta know me. I kick it back here at the Swamp when my brain works overtime. I'm trying to get RJ over here, but it's too close to the holidaze. I'm M17S'n it this week. Took off Tuesday for requisite Christmas shopping with the SO. We're done. Now it's on to business.

I use to have a FNC! Wish I still had that one or a few for that matter! Anyway that gas system on that rifle was fantastic! Why didn't the US adopt that rifle?
KurtsKustom
12-21-2003, 05:40 AM
I was shopping for a new carbine circa 1980. The FNC was high on the list, but reports were coming in that the FNC was somewhat 'fragile'. This, whether real or imagined, set me off on another course (Daewoo). The Koreans got it right with the MAX series, another M16/AK hybrid, but I still longed for a 'Fancy', which is what we dubbed the FNC. The current M16 gas system dates back to the 40's, and with the reports we're seeing now, I'm right on track. Thx.

12-23-2003, 09:34 PM
Cool! Those Daewoo's are nice rifles! Aren't parts hard to get?
KurtsKustom
12-24-2003, 05:57 AM
I don't worry about parts. I make them if I have to. I'm a tool & die guy. Often, there's more than one way to arrive at a solution. You just have to keep an open (and hungry) mind. If parts aren't available, it's political.

All I can say is, if you build it they will come. Or, at least I will... and the other people lurking about here who have been lusting after a better gas system for our AR's.
I hate scrubbing the baked-on crud off of AR bolt carriers and bolts.

01-29-2004, 06:23 AM
Koming soon! From the HK website:
Internally the XM8 employs a combat-proven robust rotary locking bolt system that functions and fieldstrips like that used in the current M16 rifle and M4 carbine. However this bolt is powered by a unique gas operating system that employs a user removable gas piston and pusher rod to operate the mechanism. Unlike the current M4/M16 direct gas system with gas tube, the XM8 gas system does not introduce propellant gases and the associated carbon fouling back into the weapon’s receiver during firing. This greatly increases the reliability of the XM8 while at same time reducing operator cleaning time by as much as 70%. This system also allows the weapon to fire more than 15,000 rounds without lubrication or cleaning in even the worst operational environments
So you see, I'm cutting edge. Look for my M5 system soon. Thx!

I'm in 2" HG's. The one shown above is one of mine I cranked out for this project. Carbon fiber tubes are planned for this product (EvoM9). The ARMS and KAC FFHG's are naturals. While linear dimensions remain equal, I've scaled down the diameters of my gas piston to make the attending assembly more kompakt (and lighter). That's why the revised piston appears to be longer. Everyone that comes over has been subjected to a "You gotta come outside and SEE this" pitch. The action of the system seems buffered with my new parts, and ejection pattern is more predictable and more closely grouped rather the the erratic ejection pattern sometimes exhibited with the direct gas impingement system that dates back 60+ years. It's time for more substance than flash on our system. I'm pleased. More later, I have to work on all the 'other' stuff that's piling up here. Thx.

Yes, that's a NM carbine FFHG, another option that provides a heat shield. Got mail! THANKS! Check yours. Their gas block covers the bases for accessory mounts since the HG is not railed. A combination oprod guide and spring seat. With a FFHG nut, you have a guide and spring seat built in. Not so when using a standard barrel nut/HG setup. This piece of SS provides both. I've been trying to figure out what to get if the ban sunsets, and I think this just went to the top of my list.
I read about some problems with carrier key breakage in some of the op-rod conversions that were made in the past, and that HK had reinforced theirs to fix that problem. This was the last remaining question I had about the KKF system, aside from "you want a credit card or a money order?" :D
It is nice to see enterprising US businessmen working on stuff like this. Even if HK does offer their uppers to the public, I won't shell out the cost of an entire AR just to get one of the few products they they bother to offer us, when I can get it instead from a US company that doesn't let politcal correctness influence their sales decisions.

1. Do you make one for 20" barrels?
2. Do they have to be govt. profile to work?
3. Will you gas system fit under a Knights RAS?
4. Can you modify the stock front sight or must I use you folding sight?
5. What all do we need to send to you besides the upper? Bolt carrier?
6. How much?
Thanks

2. No.
3. It works under M4 HG's with the upper shield removed.

5. The bolt carrier must be modified to accept the new key.
6. @$300 with steel P-rail gas block (that's a CYA price).

So how about a update Kurt?

The update is that I'm dragging my a$$ due to the volume of other work. I'm turning away work other than on the 15/16/17 platforms. Nobody wants this more than me, brother, NOBODY! I would kill to make it happen.

Sorry? Don't be sorry! I'm doing better than ever concerning the focus of the business. My bud in the industry has been saying this for years, "Focus on what you do. You don't need the rest of it. You've done well in honing your business into what it will become." It's tough when you're such a stickler for exactness, so tough you can only trust yourself. I'm hanging in there, searching for that piece of crust I deserve. Leaving those feelings that I was raised with, that of not being deserving, was the toughest part. I give/gave my children POSITIVE reinforcement!

I announced my system before HK at SHOT. My system looked like it had promise, and the L-W asked for an example for evaluation, as they were looking at several (4 'entries'?). Looks like I was the winner, and now, the loser. No...the WINNER! All the documentation, paperwork, and development files are intact. I just need to bring them before a judge. My Bro told me yesterday. "You give too much away." It's in my nature. A New Year's Resolution, and, I'm finally picking up my OWN copy of Sun Tzu today!

Based on reviewing the thread history of your development process, I'm with you and will for sure order the mod from you when the smoke clears. The guys at Gunsnet think highly of you and that's enough for me!
Here's the link to DSA.

I haven't been able to get in here for a long time! Don't know why. A while back, this place was REALLY effed up with spam. YES! I'll be offering the M9Evo up VERY soon. Fact is, I lost my finisher, wooed by the promise of easy money by my brother-in-law who manages a machine shop/manufacturing facility in Leesburg. So, it's back to it all falling on me. I'll get him back (my #4 son), and he'll be even more ready for a position here at KKF. He's operating a CNC over in Leesburg, so he'll be well prepped to run my CNC's when I get him back. Then we can really spit out Evo's! Thx.

Also interested. Hope things are going well on your end Kurt. I'll make the jump to the AR if this gets going! I'm thinking about the dissipator, would the Evo system fit under the 20" handguards? Or would I have to go w/ the cav arms C5 M4 profile 20" HGs? http://www.cavalryarms.com/C5.html

Man, this forum is s l o w. That's why I don't show up here as often as I'd like. The Honda V4 forums have it all over this! I'm waiting for my local power company to run in extra 3-phase power into my existing shop for my CNC's and my new building. That's the key!

Schuetzenman just bought one...
The 1987 Yamaha driven by Kurt Wala, 57, of Bushnell was southbound behind the 1999 Ford SUV, the Florida Highway Patrol said. Wala was ejected and died at Leesburg Regional Hospital.

WOW!
I can't believe this thread.
It appears that Kurt invented the first AR piston retrofit kit and that his piston system was "borrowed" by LW and Bushmaster?
Hard to believe LW would play like that.
Pics of the EVO Scheutzenman?
