I am new to Ars and I recently bought an "Armalite M15A2 Carbine 5.56mm".
I was wondering how close it is to military spec for parts replacement and stocking up on spare parts. Also, what parts are good to keep around?
I have asked this question before to personal aquaintances and they had bad things to say about Eagle Arms as far as them being milspec. I keep telling them... I think there is a difference between Armalite and Eagle Arms, but they won't hear it. Not that there is anything wrong with Eagle Arms, it's just that isn't what I have. All they want to do is preach Bushmaster.

Reason they preach Bushmaster is because they make the closest thing to an actual Fabrique Nationale M16A2.

Armalite carbines actually have a midlength gas system and not a traditional carbine length system. In that aspect they are not even close the mil-spec but in my opinion better! If you want to compare Eagle Arms and Armalite keep in mind they are the same company and the biggest difference between the two is that the Eagle Arms barrels are not chrome lined. In addition the Armalite barrels use 4140 steel and mil-spec calls for 4150.

Not really because Bushmaster uses 1:9 twist in all their standard rifles/carbines and mil-spec calls for 1:7 twist. You can special order a Bushmaster 20" or 14.5" in 1:7 twist barrel but they do not offer this on any of their off the shelf rifles. Also their 20" rifle is also and HBAR and not a gov't profile found on the real M16's. Once again you can special order a gov't profile barrel but it does not come standard.
Hope this helps

Bushmaster explained that they use the 1:9 as standard is that the barrel life of a 1:7 is shorter.

Armalite = Lifetime
Bushmaster = 1 Year
